"Se Quiere, Se Mata" (English: They Love, They Kill) is the fifth single released from Shakira's third album, Pies Descalzos (1996). Written and composed by her, "Se Quiere, Se Mata" was a Top Ten Hit in Mexico and on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks in the United States. The song is about the pressures that society puts on young people to have abortions.[citation needed] That is, they are left with no other choice because society sees them as too young to have a child and judges them for being in that situation.
