[edit] Synergy/DE
Dear Ms. Marmins,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding Synergy/DE and the associated AfD. I appreciate your efforts, and those of your colleagues, to turn this article into a less "markety" one. However, the article in its current form is still highly biased; in fact, its contents are comprised solely of a list of features. How could that be considered "unbiased"?
Compare your article to the following: COBOL, PL/I, and RPG programming language. All of these contain sections about the history of the language, criticisms of it, and comparisons to other programming languages. And like all legitimate articles, these three provide a host of external references and citations, which is a key requirement in every encyclopedia. Your article has none of that.
On September 23 you removed the {{advertisement}} tag that was placed there by another editor. I believe that was a mistake on your part; having this tag on an article automatically places it in a highly-visible category, essentially inviting other editors to improve the article. By taking the tag off, you essentially condemned the article to remain in its current, "corporate-driven" form.
I am still puzzled by the copyright status of this article; if it was indeed written by an "independent user", why does Synergex Inc. still claim copyright to the contents? The Wikimedia Foundation is very sensitive to issues of copyright, as well as to commercial exploitation of Wikipedia.
I would be happy to see the Synergy/DE article grow to a well-balanced, informative, critical, and thoroughly-referenced article. In fact, I bet Synergex would get better publicity if you included a collection of humorous anecdotes about the language, amusing compiler bugs, or other trivia that would catch the attention of the reader. It is not too late--find a couple of experienced Wikipedia editors who have used the language; I'm sure they'd be happy to lend a hand.
In any case, the matter is no longer in my hands. Once the period for comment has ended, an independent Administrator will decide whether to keep this article or not. Owen× ☎ 18:53, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
