[edit] Answers to Yuser's questions

Hello, I'm not Yuser. But I may indeed be able to answer your questions.

  1. ! stands for "not" in some computer programming languages. A logical statement such as (A and B) can be negated, or if you prefer, made its opposite, by putting a ! infront of it. I can only assume the point is that vote is the best term for what it is, but since the overall process ISN'T a vote but an attempt at building a concensus, they choose to say it's "not vote" or !vote.
  2. Wikidefcon is a little bit of fun, mixed in with some usefulness. It's a play on Defcon used by the US military; it is a way of informing users what level of vandalism is currently going on.

Hopefully this answers your questions. --Deskana (For Great Justice!) 17:15, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My Request for Adminship

Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. I'd also like to thank you for your congrats message, it is appreciated :) Please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page should you need anything or want to discuss something with me.--Nilfanion (talk) 16:03, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "How am I a sockpuppet of Tooj117? I have performed no vandalism at all, or not even acted like Tooj117 (yes, I have found out who he is), or not even uploaded any images. Aren't blocks for when a user is harming the encyclopedia? I have contributed to this encyclopedia for almost three months now. If I did anything wrong, such as the one time I accidentally tagged an article with db-empty instead of db-band, I immediately apologized. I did not vandalize an article, nor did I attack a Wikipedian. Not once did I receive a warning from a fellow Wikipedian to stop this or that. I have tried to be the best Wikipedian I could be. You may go through my archives and check for any warning Wikipedians have gave me. Alternatively, you may go to User talk:Sd31415/Archive 4, and check the history for any test or blatant vandal template. Thank you."

Decline reason: "I'm confident enough, on reading the whole lot below, that you are either a clever sockpuppet or stupid meatpuppet. My money is on the former, but even the latter leads me, as an uninvolved admin, to confirm the block. -- REDVEЯS 21:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)"

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

In addition to my comment made above, I would like to say that I trust Daniel.Bryant's evidence. However, the template also says to "see contribs" as well. If you see my contributions, you will see that I never made an edit similar to his. For example, he insults Ohnoitsjamie in has last edit. I will never insult Daniel.Bryant or Mackensen even if they were the ones who blocked me. I have always tried (and succeeded) in being civil in all situations. Tooj117 (talk contribs) also vandalized various articles such as Geek and Rush Limbaugh. Also, looking at his logs, he uploaded images that have been deleted. One such is Image:Geek.jpg, which Ohnoitsjamie has replaced with another image to prevent vandalism. I have not uploaded geek images, or any images for that matter, as of today. So, my point is that my status of a sockpuppet has been established by CheckUser but not my contributions, my page moves, or my logs. I would like to ask an adminstrator reading this to review my block. Moreover, the RCU case was a request to identify and block the IP addresses responsible for blatant vandalism and attack accounts. Again, as stated above, I have never harmed this encyclopedia by vandalizing, attacking another user, etc. Thank you. SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 12:19, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

You're either Tooj117 or he's a friend of yours (Trevor). If you really were a reformed vandal, you would've admitted knowing about Tooj117. An examination of your contributions and the contributions of the other [[confirmed sockpuppets shows that you set up numerous accounts and created conversations and interactions between those accounts, for what purpose, only you know. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:35, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Ohnoitsjamie! Thanks for reading my request. I would like to address some of the concerns you have with my request for unblock. First, you say that I am Tooj117, and that an examination of my contributions shows that I am a sockpuppet. My last contributions were welcoming IPs, helping AndonicO with on the talk page of WP:UPH, making changes to some articles but documenting those changes in my edit summaries, congratulating two users, thanking a user, and asking some questions. I would like to ask you to relate these edits to the edits of other sockpuppets. Second, you say that I have conversed with the sockpuppets of Tooj117. Yes, I have admittedly talked to a few of those users listed in November and early December, because I know the users in real life. I know Trevor, but I am not Tooj117. After December, I have talked with users such as Deskana, Yuser31415, Sasuke-kun27, (aeropagitica), Nishkid64, Arjun01, Fir0002, Tohru Honda13, and Rfrisie. Third, you say that I might be reformed vandal. Sorry, but I cannot say that I am reformed vandal, because I am honest when I say that I have never vandalized Wikipedia. By looking at Tooj117 and his sockpuppet's edits, they are blatantly violating WP:NPA. I have always strived to be nice in all situations. Moreover, I have not vandalized this encyclopedia. Sd31415 is the only account I have, in addition to my IP, which has been autoblocked. Now, why should I ask a sysop to unblock me? First, I believe my block was unjust. The reason was "sockpuppet," which Tooj117 has used for "abuse, libel, or ban evasion." I have not abused Wikipedia. I have not abused the articles, but rather made helpful changes to them. Nor have I abused the editors by attacking them; ask one of the users that I have talked to. Second, I believe that through my near 2,600 edits, I have helped improve this encyclopedia. I am a WikiGnome who makes minor but helpful changes to articles. I have also nominated good mottos at WP:MOTD. I have done numerous other things, like !vote at WP:RFA and WP:FPC. I have also helped improve Wikipedia's numerous portals (ask Rfrisbie). I believe that I can further continue to help Wikipedia. I would ask you, Ohnoitsjamie, or any other administrator to review my block. By that, I mean my edits to Wikipedia. They were not abusive but in fact helpful. I have also been nice (I even have a RAOK barnstar and Scrumshus called me "a truly a one-of a kind Wikipedian" for greeting him kindly). I ask you to ask yourself, "Is this user helping and improving Wikipedia?" and take the appropriate action, whether it be unblock or not. Thanks for your time and happy editing! SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 00:16, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

You have offered no explanation as to how the checkuser is wrong. If it is not wrong, then you are a sockpuppet and should be marked and blocked as such. I've got to say I'm a tad disappointed to find this out about you. You've interacted with clear sockpuppets of the user in question, for example on Wikipedia:Segway Geeks (which I nominated for deletion) so I ask you to explain this before we even consider unblocking you. --Deskana (request backup) 00:34, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I am quoting WP:LTA: "Tooj117 is a vandal that started vandalizing the page Geek by repetedly adding a ridiculous picure of a stereotypical geek. The vandal the began adding this picture on various pages, or just doing other vandalism such as page blanking, and false information. The user was blocked indefinitely. Tooj117 kept creating sockpuppets and had accounts doing the same vandalism from different IPs. The vandalism by tooj117 of the page geek still happens frequently, but not nearly as often as before. Another user Stroon does the same vandalism but seams to be a different user imitating The Geek Vandal. The Geek Vandal still vandalizes pages freqeuntly. Mostly geek, Joe Lieberman, and Admin's user pages.

First, I haven't vandalizing Geek. Second, I haven't blanked any articles or provided false information. Third, I haven't uploaded any images of a stereotypical geek. The reason for the block was sockpuppet of Tooj117. The information here states what Tooj117's sockpuppets do. I haven't engaged in any of those activities. SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 00:43, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

You'll need more than circumstantial evidence (or lack thereof) to explain the CheckUser results. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:44, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

If am correct, the CheckUser checks IPs used by the user, such as me. If this helps, one of the IPs I use is my house. The other IP I use is my school's IP, which is blocked for repeated vandalism (which I have not engaged in). My school has over 1500 students using the school IP. SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 00:47, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

And checkuser also typically checks to see who the IP is registered to, as previously there was evidence that I had vandalised through an IP address, but I was cleared on account of the fact that I was known to have used that IP address for other things long before the checkuser. Checkuser may sometimes indicate that people are not sockpuppets incorrectly, but it rarely indicates they are sockpuppets incorrectly. Sorry, but I'm not unblocking. --Deskana (request backup) 00:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Comment That might be easier to believe if that timestamps of the socks' edits weren't all over the place (outside the range of school hours in Texas). CheckUser clerks can probably confirm/deny whether or not the IP belongs to a school (which I doubt). OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:56, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
And you've been involved in the whole "Segway Geek" thing, which actually, only seems to have the involvement of socks of this user. So no, we're not convinced. --Deskana (request backup) 01:00, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

If that is your final decision, I will not argue with it. I'm sorry that this didn't go where I expected. I trust CheckUser, but I think contributions are a better piece of evidence. Blocks are mainly for vandalism, 3RR, or PAs. I have been a civil editor who has tried to always do the right thing. I guess this is my last edit, SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 01:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

(The socks were editing from their homes. I was involved in SG because my friends asked me to improve their "new group." So I said, why not make the page and the templates look better? I improved the templates and also I gave them advice on who to recruit, since they asked me [in real life]. SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 01:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC))

It would have been easier to believe you had you come clean from the get go (admitting knowledge of "your friends," etc.) If you end up eventually returning to Wikipedia, stay out of trouble from day one and you'll have no problems; no hard feelings. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:13, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Further Discussion

Thanks for the kind note. Also, I have found my school's IP, 68.185.199.64. However, getting back almost 2,600 edits is not easy. That is why I would liked to be unblocked. I have already established a good reputation with users. I am not the person who created accounts Tooj117, etc., but I know him (Trevor, as you have said before). I would like to know why my classmate's behavior on Wikipedia warrants my blocking. I have always "stayed out of trouble from day one" and always will. If I create a new account, I will still have to use my school and home IP (and account creation is blocked on both). If you could provide just one more explanation, that would be appreciated. I would also like for you to talk a look at Geekler's talk page. I remain civil, while he is continually vandalizing his talk page. This isn't CheckUser evidence, but it is still evidence that I am not his sockpuppet, as established by my (and his) edits. Happy editing! SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 01:26, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Though I remain doubtful, you could ask for another CheckUser regarding the recent activity on those accounts, if you think it would prove anything. You playing the "good guy" and the other socks playing the "bad guy" doesn't really prove anything. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:55, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I am not playing the good guy because I am a completely different person than Gabe and Trevor. Though it may be hard to believe, they are not at my side. And could you explain the comment about WP:RCU? I am still a bit of a newbie here. SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 01:58, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I have unblocked you per a discussion with Sa!kh4n. The school address remains blocked. At the moment I consider you a user in good standing. Mackensen (talk) 01:41, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

zOMG I was shocked to see you on my watchlist :) Glad you are back. If you need me please contact me. Cheers and happy editing. Arjun 02:25, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
My apologies for tagging your userpage - it is a merely procedural action, given Mackensen "confirmed" you were a sockpuppet (which was then revoked per discussion) and had blocked you indef (revoked as well now), as a clerk I just do the tagging as appropriate (which is {{sockpuppetcheckuser}}). Juat a clarification: I wasn't the one who blocked you, by the way; that was Mackensen. Sorry about that, and everything in this mini-saga, and best of luck with everything, Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 03:19, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! [edit] Your signature

I would like to ask you to remove the images from your signature. I really admired your resourcefulness in creating it. However there are two important considerations. First, the wikipedia policy about signatures specificaly says "Images of any kind should not be used in signatures" and explains why. Second, the code in your signature clutters the discussion page when you open it for editing and creates some confusion. Sorry for bothering you, `'mikka 01:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

It is a common practice to have a link to users' talk page in the sig, rather than to the guest book. Otherwise I am quite tolerant. `'mikka 02:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HELP!

Something went wrong with my userpage when I copy-pasted all of the info and make section templates so it wouldn't be so long in the edit window. Instead of being neat and in rows, everything is in one big box. Since you designed the page, can you (please) help me? --tennisman sign here! 13:43, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

That's EXTREMELY weird. When I first did it, all of the row sizes were messed up. Oh well, it seems to have fixed itself. Thanks anyway. (PS-Do you EVER sleep? It seems like you're always on...)--tennisman sign here! 13:52, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Porn email

I was wondering why you sent me all that porn via email. I dont appriciate that kind of behavior and it has been reported to your ISP (Which is DFW.FIOS-Verizon by the way). I found that material insane and offensive and would appriciate it if you never send me that material again. Thank you goodbye.

Poonana 03:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

I have never sent anyone such e-mail, and so I feel offended by your accusation. I have checked my sent e-mail and have found no such e-mail. Also, I do not know your e-mail address and I find it suspicious that your first edit is to my talk page. Please reply here. Thanks. S.D. ¿п? § 03:25, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Please do not remove relevent discussions from your talk page. I have proof of the emails and have forwarded them to an administrator. Also I found it funny as well that the second i make my account and confirm my email, I get some emails from you containing porn. I live an an area where viewing that kind of material can get your internet service ended. What I am curious about is why is it that you decided to do something like this in the first place. Please reply back on YOUR talk page. Thank you.

Poonana 03:33, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Is this some sort of a joke? First, I don't know who you are, except that you have registered a new account called Poonana (talk contribs). Second, if I don't know your e-mail address, how did I send them to you? I have not logged in to my e-mail since this morning, except to just check that I sent this mail. Please tell the adminstrator that you notified, so I can verify that I did not send this e-mail. Also, if I sent you some e-mails, could you e-mail me what the "From" box stated? Thanks. S.D. ¿п? § 03:40, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Not to sound awkward, but it would be impossible for S.D to do that, you don't have the "email" this user function turned on. Arjun 03:42, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you Arjun, but this afair is between me and SD31415, please do not interfere unless you have sent me porn email yourself. This is in no way a joke. Sd31415, I have the email. I recieved it through wikipedia. As I have said, I am new to this site so I dont know how to explain "how" this happened. I do however know that I recieved an email from you approximatly 30 minutes ago with various pornagraphic material in it. As I have said this HAS been reported to several administrators and is being taken seriously. Poonana 03:49, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Arjun had a good comment. I couldn't have emailed you anything if you don't have you e-mail on. You account was created less than 15m ago when you first edited my talk page, so I couldn't have sent you anything 30m before then. So, I do not know why you thought I had sent it. S.D. ¿п? § 03:53, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
You said you the e-mail received through Wikipedia. This cannot be the case unless you had your e-mail turned on and verified, which you don't. The only other way that you could have received it is on your talk page. S.D. ¿п? § 03:56, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry to interfere once again Poonana, but to be Frank you haven't contacted any admin at all. You contribs are available to everyone who wants to see them on your userpage. The only edits you have are related to this discussion. If *you have an alternate account* this is a completely different story. Do you have a different account that might be reachable, as you learned very quickly about popups Arjun 04:01, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Also, you couldn't have notified any administrators, either through their talk pages (your contributions don't show any other edits than to this talk page, and your own user and talk pages) or email (since your email isn't enabled). S.D. ¿п? § 04:02, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah you said the same thing only compacted :). Which really brings up the only possible question do you have an extra account. Because if not...than your accusations are impossible. Arjun 04:04, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, Arjun. "Also I found it funny as well that the second i make my account and confirm my email, I get some emails from you containing porn." You haven't confirmed any email. S.D. ¿п? § 04:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Speaking of email, I have emailed you :D. Cheers! Arjun 04:07, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Great job, thanks a lot...with me and you working together I think we can get this list featured :). But it is far from it now, okay since you just added one, I think the next one will be Pongal. Cheers! Also I think we shouldn't worry about images yet, right now lets just focus on the content. Thanks a billion (times pi) :D. Arjun 17:14, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Fantastic!!! Very nice job, I would give you another barnstar but...I like to keep my barnstar giving to once a week ;). Cheers and great job. I am going to give it a good look over to see what needs work on it next. Arjun 01:33, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah definatly, we should add more material. I would say no to the orange backround since this would probably be a little to elaborate, but good idea :). Cheers! Arjun 01:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Me too. Cheers! Arjun 01:45, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tin Pot Operation

Hi Sd31415, just wanted to let you know that your reversion of vandalism to this article on 20 January didn't quite work as you expected because you used Popups to do the reversion, and there were two sequential edits by the vandal. The result was you reverted his second edit back to his first, which was still a vandal edit. Popups only goes back one edit, it's a "feature" to watch out for. Thanks for helping keep the vandals at bay, though. Phaedrus86 10:21, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

Just another question, what sort of script are you using to make it easier to interact with other users through talk pages? I find it a little bit exacerbating not knowing where I should be looking for replies (my talk page or the other user's). Does this script also notify you when someone replies to your message on their talk page? Yonatanh 23:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Thank you for your support in my recent RfA. I think valid criticisms were raised in areas that I need to work on, so I've withdrawn my name. I intend to work on addressing the concerns that were raised, and think I need to work contributing without allowing myself to become as stressed as I have been at times, which did result in some inappropriate behavior. Perhaps I may re-explore adminship at some point in the future, but it's a little early to consider that. Again, thank you. Fan-1967 21:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WP:India

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! — Lost(talk) 04:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
