Hello Sd31415, I was just wondering if you have heard of the Bengali Wikipedia (bn.wikipedia.org). The Bengali Wikipedia is desparately in need of more Bengali articles about India and West Bengal. Hi! Howrah Bridge, though a smaller article, could be a good candidate for selected article, as it can be provided with references and inline citations (hopefully). On the other hand, both Durga Puja and Bengali cuisine lack good references, and are absolutely deficient in inline citations, though both articles sounds comprehensive. Howrah Bridge may have some problems regarding comprehensiveness. Let's put those as candidates.

Regarding direct promotion to selected pictures, I don't have any problems. But will it be ok once the portal is up for featured candidacy? I dont have much idea, but someone may tell that images were not selected by nomination procedure. Already we have the whole biography section which has not been chosen by nomination procedure.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:19, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I personally feel that only featured articles should be used on the front page, maybe even rename the entire selected articles section to 'featured articles', as portals are really all about highlighting the quality of our content. What do you think? riana_dzasta 23:54, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

As I told Dwaipayan, "Regarding the selected pictures, I think we could put the selected pictures on the candidates page using the layout Riana created (and without creating a separate subpage). First of all, thank you very much. :-) Your first tip says "I would suggest randomizing the contents of the portal.", which, frankly, I don't understand. The second is "The introduction needs an image.", is that fine? Third: "More selected content, did you know's, and a things you can do box are needed." Selected content will be updating once monthly, DYKs have to be on the main page first, so it's hard (or am I wrong on that?), and I'll make a "things to do" section soon. Your fourth is "Try to add an image to every box." do you mean literally? (eg. 1. An example of a portal that randomizes content is the Chemistry portal. Here, the content (articles, pictures, did #you know's, etc.) doesn't have to changed. Every time you press "Show new selections," new content shows up.

   I noticed Arjun's Portal:Hinduism had the "Show new selections", but I have no idea on how to do that. Do you?

   Yes, I learned how to do it over the weekend. I would suggest that you first get you create selected articles subpages for the 6 featured articles, good articles, and the former featured article. Also, create 10 selected pictures, selected biographies, and did you know's (which don't have to show up on the Main page). Then, I'll put in the "Show new selections" and show you how to do it (it's actually quite easy once you get the hang of it :)). S.D. ¿п? § 12:44, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I've just received an e-mail from Kuldip Garhwal (the owner of the blog you linked me to the other day) giving us permission to use the photos on Wikipedia under the GDFL.
