Talk:Scratch monkey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is another scratch monkey story circulating, which is very different to the version repeated here. That version suggests there were several monkeys connected up to a mainframe hard disk controller to record EEG data via attached skull caps. It also suggests that the man servicing the machine began diagnostics on the disk controller without verifying it was safe to do so. The controller, which was mounted in read-only mode, was switched to read/write and the electrical signals sent back through the skull caps electrocuted the monkeys, killing some of them. http://edp.org/monkey.htm

Sounds like nonsense to me. How could the sensitive EEG sensors induce anything in the brain of the monkeys? --Thenickdude 02:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Copywrong. It's in the public domain. Three clicks from the linked Jargon File entry could have solved the mystery. — 91.0.97.8 16:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PM?

Does the PM in this article stand for preventative maintenance? That's the only thing on the PM disambig page that might fit.

Yes; in the original Jargon File entry from which this was copied, [PM] links to exactly that definition.

Stop whining. The article is good enough.
