The Screaming Tunnel is an abandoned railway tunnel located in the northwest end of Niagara Falls, Ontario off Warner Road.
This tunnel was originally constructed as a railway tunnel in the early 1900s, however the financial difficulties of the Grand Trunk Railway in the wake of World War I resulted in the tunnel never being completed; the tunnel bore was finished however tracks were never installed.
The tunnel has remained abandoned ever since and is today known as the "Screaming Tunnel", since it is believed that the ghost of a small girl now haunts the tunnel. There are numerous versions to the legend, however each story ends with a girl being burnt alive and her screams echoing throughout the tunnel. According to one legend, she was burnt alive by her father as a result of a lost custody battle. It is said that if one lights a match in the middle of the tunnel, they will hear a high-pitched scream that causes the match to go out.
A lot of these ideas seem cliché, as stated in many different ghost or paranormal stories, the said figure appears at midnight. The statement "was never finished in the wake of World War I" may be false, as practically the only thing that may have been related to this may have been supply shipment problems, or maybe a small draft.
