Two scramsaxes, from an illustration in Richard Burton's The Book of the Sword, 1884.

Note: this is an illustration of outdated historical misunderstanding.
"According to the actual scitentific knowledge knifes from the Halstatt-period are not to be named as Seaxes. Knifes named Seax appearing from the 3. century BC on until the 11. resp. 12. century. The image does not represent the actual scientific knowledge. (Nach dem aktuellen Wissensstand werden Messer aus der Halstattzeit werden nicht als Sax bezeichnet. Saxe treten erst im 3. Jh. v. Chr. bis ins 11./12. Jh. auf. Das Bild zeigt einen alten Wissenstand.)" --User:Bullenwächter  08:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
