[edit] Unspecified source for Image:ASU college seal.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ASU college seal.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 22:52, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ASU College Seal.JPG

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:ASU College Seal.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NMajdantalk 00:12, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Morehouse college seal.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Morehouse college seal.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Edits to Albany State alumni table

Hello. You recently added James Blaylock to the Albany State University alumni table however, the reference you provided does not mention that he was a graduate of Albany State. Do you have another reference that can be used? Absolon S. Kent (talk) 14:35, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

yes, the other reference I have is a physical book called "I'll find a way or make one: a tribute to historically black colleges and universities. He is listed in the notable alumni section for ASU. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scotcra1 (talkcontribs) 19:15, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Great. Per WP:CITE it should be included for verifiability. Please add the book as a reference in the table. You can use the citation examples page if you have questions on the format to use. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 19:22, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I can do one better. I have a link for a google book that shows him as as member of the ASU Aqua Rams swim team, proving he was an alumnus. Scotcra1 (talk)scotcra1
Great. Thanks. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 19:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
yes, I saw that one earlier. The ASU hall of fame reference. That is a good one too. Thanks Scotcra1 (talk) 20:15, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I think the changes I just added on your references will stand up a little stronger. The google search references tend to be shot down more often than not. At least this way you have a verifiable third party source that states that both were actually alumni. Good luck. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 20:18, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
If a google book is found on google, that isn't necessarily a google search reference. It is a book accessible through their database correct? It is a book no less..an e-book. However, the hall of fame listing is better. I found that earlier too, ironically, through a google search. how did you find it?Scotcra1 (talk) 20:20, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes and know. If you link directly to the book you're fine. Your link was to the search page for the book. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 20:24, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Asu logo 1.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Asu logo 1.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:58, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fixed licensing and Fair Use

I corrected the fair use and licensing information for this image. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 20:24, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Absolon, I uploaded that image with the intent of using it on the asu page. I changed my mind and of course had no way of deleting it. lol Maybe it can be used on the page in the future in some way. Is the athletic logo necessary? Maybe it can take the place of that as an official brand logo of the university. similarly Emory University has an official brand logo on its page in that area.Scotcra1 (talk) 20:29, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I added it to the page and just moved it a little further down. The infobox format asks for the official athletic logo so I wouldn't recommend changing it. It's okay to have both logos on the page. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 20:33, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images and logos

Oh ok..I didn't realize it linked to a search page. That was incorrect. Thanks. I just saw the resized logo on the page and the offficial logo. The athletic logo is overpowering now don't you think..kinda big? lol and that asu logo I uploaded doesn't look that great on the page. Scotcra1 (talk) 20:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

The athletic logo is huge on the clark page too. is that a new wiki standard or something? for the logos to be very large? I noticed on the morehouse college page that their college seal is blown up to the point that the resolution is bad same for clark atlanta university seal. Scotcra1 (talk) 20:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

The images can be resized by adding a pix count in the code. I went with 100px originally, but it seemed really small (on both Clark Atlanta and Albany State). I was going to play with the sizing later when I got a little free time. (I decided to go ahead and make them all 200 px. The Morehouse logo is a mess because the originally loaded file is tiny, so to make it visable (150px) it had to be stretched. That large you can see all the distortion. I'm looking for a new logo and will replace it when I get the chance. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 21:03, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox edits

You may want to read the information at WP:UNI and Template:Infobox University before editing the infoboxs as you have been. --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 19:35, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Concur - Many of the image edits and removals you have been making are against standard WP:UNI. The point is to standardize the pages to one format or style. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 12:07, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I will quote for you the template documentation line in question (found here) "logo Use for an athletics logo, corporate emblem, or similar image. Enter full image syntax." (emphasis mine). --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 19:04, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Oh I am sorry I forgot that wikipedia was for school marketing... oh wait, THEY ARE NOT! --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 19:11, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] February 2008

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Clark Atlanta University. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. please do not revert again Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 19:18, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Style guide

You do know you made your request on an article talk page and not on a WP:DR page? --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 19:48, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] In re your third opinion request

Your request for a third opinion did not comply with Wikipedia:Third opinion#How to list a dispute, which requires a link to a talk page discussion, a brief neutral description, and a timestamp only. It has been removed.

WikiProject Universities (talk) may be a source of information for you.

Additionally, you appear to have been edit warring on quite a few articles. Persisting in this may result in your account being blocked from editing. — Athaenara 23:40, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] edits

Hi Absolon

The edits I've made have been in line with wikiprojects. I have put logos in appropriate areas and corrected incorrect information. logos at the top and bottom of infoboxes do not have to be seal then athletic logo. I have looked at the wikiprojects outline and visited other college articles considered perfect. they did not have this format —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scotcra1 (talkcontribs) 17:28, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Absolon: Please take a closer look at the guidelines. It does not necessitate use of an athletic logo in the infobox. the logo option at the bottom of the infobox is optional as many schools have more recognizable secondary logos other than their colleges seals. It asks for athletics information and the name of the mascot. An illustration of the mascot is useful in the athletic section of an article. Thanks Scotcra1 (talk) 18:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm not looking to get into some lame edit war over the issue with you. If you look at the Template usage guidance you can clearly see that the WP:UNI members have made a specific agreement on the issue. The "logo" field in the infobox is for "Use for an athletics logo, corporate emblem, or similar image. Enter full image syntax." You've been around Wikipedia long enough to know the five pillars. In the interest of good Wikipedia Etiquette I'll leave the page alone and wish you luck. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 15:35, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Absolon:
I had already decided to forget about this issue and leave wikipedia alone all together. I definitely don't want to get into a lame edit war either. It's not that serious. I did get rather confused by the insistence of having the athletic logo be the logo of choice when I have looked through so many colleges pages, hbcu and predominantly white, and found that there were different logos or secondary logos or emblems at the bottom. some of them were athletic but most were secondary school logos or none at all. the athletic logos tended to be in the athletics section. I could kinda tell that you enjoy sports and that is fine. It just looked like the sports aspect was being bit blown up, literally.(oversized sport logos) Well, anyway, I'm not an official wiki editor or administrator like you, I'm a lay person on wiki who decided to try to make some good faith unbiased contributions.
Misunderstandings like this do happen online unfortunately. I'm gonna take wiki for what it is. It's a publicly edited online encyclopedia that is more similar to an internet search engine than an encyclopedia in a lot of ways. Take care and I wish you the best also. Scotcra1 (talk) 16:55, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not an admin, and I've had my share of disputes with other Wikipedia editors. I simply see Wikipedia for what it is. I would encourage you not to give up. I've found it's better to look at the various WikiProjects and templates because they can give you a better perspective on how most articles should be formatted. You might also want to take a break from major content changes and volunteer for less controversial edits.
You are correct that many articles are currently out of format. That's one reason why I volunteered to work on the Georgia HBCUs as a part of WikiProject Georgia. I am currently working to standardize and expand them. Eventually, hopefully I can move on to other HBCUs. I agree the logos would be better place in the athletic section, but the Wikipedia consenus was to put it in the infobox, so that's where I'm placing them. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 17:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Morehouse college seal.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Morehouse college seal.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:23, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
