[edit] Unauthorized Autobiography
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and the good state of Maryland has not been completely rid of him since. He moved to Columbia in 1976 and later attended the University of Maryland at College Park, where he played spades, drank, ran amuck, generally terrorized the populace, did not graduate, and met a fine, young, bouncy blonde who, in a catastrophic moment of weakness in 1991, agreed to marry him. He has two daughters who both thankfully take after their mother and therefore are much cuter than he.
After his money ran out, Scooter found himself an Internet geek in the days before the Washington Post had informed the legions of suit-wearing corporate criminals that it existed. Therefore, he descended upon that field of work and began to wreak havoc upon it as well. Not content, he later joined the Greens and also caused a ruckus in politics in the United States, which desperately deserved it. He joined the ranks of Wikipedians on December 9, 2003.
Scooter is an extreme righto-leftist with a predilection for tea, eclectic music, the Green Party, soccer, role-playing games, anime, and inventing odd games and sports.
He dreams of making a Wiki of his very own someday.
Scooter is considered dangerous, especially to one's sanity, by the Ministry of Homeland Security. If you should encounter Scooter, please administer Ben & Jerry's (or other sexual favors) immediately and back away slowly.
Thank you. Your assistance in the struggle against Ghodless communism is appreciated. |
[edit] Things You Should Know About Me
I was recently looking at Eloquence's user page, and I saw that he had a section listed on himself called "Declaration of Biases". This struck me as very honest and useful, and I thought I might want to include something similar.
I don't know if "biases" is the right word for these, because I'm certainly going to try not to let these beliefs and preferences affect what I write, and I don't want anybody to think that I don't see value in other points of view as well. But, well, we can't all be perfect, and it may help others to know where I'm coming from when I edit things and talk to them on talk pages. So, onward.
- I'm not the typical "American". I'm proud to be from the U.S., and I'm proud that we've given the world things like baseball, rock and roll, and Martin Luther King, Jr. But I also like soccer (I danced in the streets when we beat Portugal in the World Cup), the metric system, and the idea of having a second language (French, in my case, though I don't speak it very well), and I'm well aware that other countries exist beyond our borders. I dislike McDonald's, "corporate America", and our idea that we have to bomb people we don't like.
- I'm a Christian and a member of the United Church of Christ. I also believe in the precepts of science. I don't acknowledge any conflict in these statements. I don't try to prove science using religion, or vice versa, any more than I would try to prove that three days was longer than three kilometers. I believe in defending my faith from fundamentalism, and ensuring it remains relevant to our lives.
- I'm a member of the Green Party of the United States, and believe in principle in the Ten Key Values. I supported David Cobb for President and Pat LaMarche for Vice-President in 2004. I don't believe the Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, or Constitutionists have the answer for our country's problems, and I especially don't believe that the two-party system is good for our country - so I'm very interested in processes such as consensus and alternative voting systems.
- I'm a big believer in etiquette and politesse. I'm much more likely to respond well to someone with whom I disagree but who makes an effort to be polite, than to someone who is rude and offensive but with whom I otherwise agree. That brings up another point: NPOV is a Very Good Thing.
- I practice BDSM. (That involves sex. Please don't follow that link if you don't want to know.)
