[edit] Scogui remaining unmerged

I would request that the Scogui page remain unmerged from the general scouting in Leicestershire page on the grounds of publicity for the club being paramount and a single page making access to relevant information considerably easier. To validate this I will endeavour expand the page so it is no longer a stub.

It is noble that you will expand it, but your reasons for doing so ("Publicity", in your words) go against Wikipedia is not an advertising service. Also, this kind of is parallel to articles for individual troops rather than for the larger entity. Leaving the merge discussion open for more opinions on this. Chris 00:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Well it does seem the organization includes both Scouts and Guides and is outside the Scouting Association (save that some of its members are in the SA) while the Scouting in Leicestershire seems to be purely Scouting Association. One option is to broaden Scouting in Leicestershire to Scouting and Guiding in Leicestershire and then merge this in. --Erp 00:19, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
I think there is a difficulty in broadening Scouting in Leicestershire as this is one of a set of articles about Scout Counties/Areas. It is not clear to me that Guides are organised around the same geographical entities. It would be nice if they were and we could broaden all of them. I agree with Chris on two points; publicity is not an appropriate argument and we should leave the merge debate open for longer. If it has to be merged I suggest it should be merged into Student Scout and Guide Organisation, partly as that is the parent organisation, not the Scout County of Leicestershire, and because members of Universities in UK come from all over the country, not just the local area. I also note that the merge tags correctly suggest the merge discussion be at Talk:Scouting in Leicestershire so I'll put a note there pointing out that discussion is taking place here. --Bduke 00:52, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
I pretty much agree with Bduke, this is not an advertising forum and unless that slant is removed and the article expanded significantly, it should be merged per Bduke's suggestion. Rlevse 01:01, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Scogui sounds like a SSAGO unit, and there is good reason for it to be merged into Student Scout and Guide Organisation, but I don't think having an article on each individual club/group is suitable - we would have to have an article for every SSAGO unit in the UK - and there are a lot of them... I have removed the merge tags for the proposed merge to Scouting in Leicestershire as that clearly has no support. However the merge to Talk:Student Scout and Guide Organisation does have some support. Since discussion was here, I have suggested at Talk:Student Scout and Guide Organisation that it continue here. The advertising slant continues. I have removed some POV stuff from the page. Unless it is fixed and good arguments put forward, I suggest the merge should go ahead. Let us resolve it soon. --Bduke 22:28, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I have done the proposed merge to Student Scout and Guide Organisation which should have been earlier. --Bduke 22:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
