Scottsdale Culinary Institute (SCI) is a career-focused school in Arizona specializing in culinary and hospitality education. Elizabeth Sherman Leite started Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 1986. The Institute is located in a former country club on a golf course and lakefront overlooking Camelback Mountain.[1]

Scottsdale Culinary Institute is a Le Cordon Bleu Schools North American affiliate and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Management and Le Cordon Bleu Hospitality and Restaurant Management and Associate of Occupational Studies degrees in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts, Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking and Le Cordon Bleu Restaurant and Hospitality Management and certificates in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts and Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking.

Bachelor Degrees:

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Management:

Camelback Campus is the main campus for Scottsdale Culinary Institute and is housed in a former country club overlooking the Camelback Mountain. Camelback Campus houses administrative offices, numerous classrooms and kitchens, the main library and L’Ecole, a student-run 100-seat restaurant. L’Ecole serves as an operations classroom and instructional laboratories for our students of Scottsdale Culinary Institute.

The SkyBridge facility is an expansion of the Camelback Main Campus. It is located in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona, minutes away from the main campus. The facilities at SkyBridge Campus include:

Historically, Scottsdale was greatly affected by the world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Scottsdale is the home of a memorial of Frank Lloyd Wright and many of the buildings in the area were designed by the architect.[12]

Scottsdale economy is greatly affected by tourism with being the largest employer in the area. The city has one of the highest numbers of resorts and hotels with many luxury restaurants.[13]


[edit] Notable Faculty and Alumni

Silvana Salcido Esparza is the chef/owner of Barrio Café, in Phoenix, AZ and graduate of Scottsdale Culinary Institute. She has received the Best of Phoenix Award ’03 and was inducted into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame as Chef Extraordinaire 2004.[14] Scottsdale Culinary Institute’s Executive Chef Jon-Paul Hutchins has been nominated for the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame. Winners will be announced at the April 2008 ceremony. Hutchins’ nomination is under the category “Culinary Ambassador” for promoting tourism, hotels and resorts, and locations within Arizona. Beginning as an instructor in 1992, Hutchins has grown with SCI, to become Executive Chef. [15]


Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza received a full scholarship while attending Scottsdale Culinary Institute.
