Scottish Rally Championship

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Scottish Rally Championship is a series of rallies run throughout Scotland over the course of a year which takes in 7 gravel rallies & 1 tarmac event which take in some breathtaking rally action and some of the best of Scotland's scenery. Points are awarded to the top placed drivers and the driver scoring the highest number of points is declared Champion. The championship has always been a breeding ground for many World Rally Championship drivers, including Colin & Alister McRae and Robbie Head. It is threatening to produce another great in the form of Dumfries driver David Bogie who is surely an exciting driver for the future.

The Championship is presently sponsored by County Saab, a chain of new & used car dealerships throughout Scotland, its owner Neale Dougan competes in a Subaru Impreza WRC.

Highlight of the year is the RSAC (Royal Scottish Automobile Club) Scottish Rally which is held in June every year. This event draws competitors from throughout the world to enjoy the unique and challenging forestry roads available to competitors in Scotland.

2008 has seen the series receiving an increasing number of competitor registrations.

Notable Championship winners have included Mitsubishi Ralliart founder Andrew Cowan, who won the championship in 1976 in a Colt Lancer, and former World Rally Champion, Colin McRae who performed a giant killing act when he took the series crown in 1988 in his humble Vauxhall Nova.
