Scott Young (born July 15, 1981 in Salt Lake City, Utah) is an American football offensive lineman in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at Brigham Young University. Before attending BYU, he was an All-American defensive tackle at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah. [1] Young set an NFL Combine bench press repetitions record in 2005 with 43 at the standard weight of 225 pounds.[2]
He is notable for a play in the Eagles' divisional round playoff game against the New Orleans Saints. Young came in as a replacement for the seriously injured all-pro right guard Shawn Andrews. With less than two minutes in the game, Young committed a false start penalty which negated an Eagles fourth down conversion. Head coach Andy Reid elected to punt rather than attempting another fourth down conversion.[citation needed]
[edit] High School Years
Young attended Hillcrest High School (Midvale) in Midvale, Utah and was a three-year letterman in football. He is the son of a police officer and an elementary school teacher. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer Young is an Eagle Scout with 64 merit badges.
