Scott Yee is a Canadian politician, political activist and perennial candidate for public office. Yee is 24 years old as of 2006, and has already sought election to public office 7 times.
Yee was born in Vernon, British Columbia and later moved to Vancouver. He joined both the Green Party of British Columbia and the right-wing Unity B.C. group, but later founded the Central Party of British Columbia for the 2001 provincial election and was the party's sole candidate. He finished last in the electoral division of Shuswap (Canadian Press, 4 May 2001).
He unsuccessfully sought election to the Vancouver city council in 2002, and moved to Toronto in 2003 to run for mayor of that city. His primary campaign issue was using Broken Windows to clean up crime in Toronto, building detox centres for drug addicts (National Post, 4 October 2003), though he also focused on a homeless working program, improved social housing, and municipal electoral reform. (Toronto Star, 6 November 2003). He finished in twenty-fifth place with 551 votes (0.08%). He remained in Toronto after the election, and speculated on running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada (National Post, 27 December 2003).
Yee ran for the Canadian House of Commons in the 2004 federal election, as the Marijuana Party candidate in the downtown Toronto riding of Toronto—Danforth. He declared his support for same-sex marriage during the campaign, but opposed government regulation of marriage generally. He also called for electoral reform in Canada, and was quoted as saying "You should be able to vote for the fucking Prime Minister, you should vote for your fucking senator, and you should vote for your fucking MP" at one all-candidates meeting (National Post, 22 June 2004). He listed his occupation as "security officer". Yee finished fifth against New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton.
Yee then returned to British Columbia, and was an independent candidate for Vancouver-Fairview in the 2005 provincial election. He also ran for Mayor of Vancouver in 2005, and issued a five-page platform which, among other things, called for prostitution to be legalized and controlled and for junkies to be forced into detox clinics. He lost both times.
Yee is leader of the unregistered Central Party of Canada, which is another name for the Central Party (British Columbia).
Scott Yee is currently running for Mayor of Toronto, but says he will be retiring after this municipal election from canadian politics. Yee also founded the World Government Coalition of which he is the President.
He also has a myspace page. And plans on running for Vancouver city council in the up coming 2008 municipal election.
