[edit] Coaching

Thomson was giving his first coaching job at Dunfermline when he finished his playing career. It was here that Thomson forged a special bond with striker Craig Brewster and goalkeeper Derek Stillie, who he would later join up with at Dundee United when Brewster was made player-manager. He remains as goalkeeping coach to this day, even after the departure of Brewster and Stillie.
