He also played for Canada in the inaugural World Baseball Classic. He has steadily risen through the Braves organization and finished 2005 with their AAA team, the Richmond Braves.
He made his major league debut on June 18, 2006. His first major league hit was an RBI single against Scott Downs of the Toronto Blue Jays on June 20, 2006.
Thorman earned his first multi-HR game on May 12, 2007 in a 9-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. On September 22, Thorman hit a pinch-hit game-tying homer with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves went on to win the game an inning later.
The Braves sent him outright to the minors on March 28, 2008.
