Scott Ford, president and chief executive officer of Alltel, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of one of the nation’s leading telecommunications companies. Since Ford joined the company as executive vice president in 1996, Alltel’s customer base has grown from 2.5 million to more than 12 million. During Ford’s tenure with the company, revenues have more than tripled from $3.1 billion to nearly $10 billion.
Upon graduation from the University of Arkansas, Ford went to work in the investment banking division at Merrill Lynch's offices in New York. In 1986 he joined Stephens Inc., an investment banking firm in Little Rock. In 1996 he joined Alltel as executive vice president with responsibility for Alltel’s communications businesses and the company’s corporate staff functions. He was named president in 1997, assumed the additional duties of chief operating officer in 1998, and was named chief executive officer in 2002.
Today Alltel is the fifth largest U.S. wireless provider. Ford has implemented a successful strategy of combining the scale and presence of a large telecommunications access provider and its established customer relationships with newly deployed digital technology capable of serving a customer’s complete communications needs.
Throughout his business career, Ford has been active in his community. He is currently a director of the Little Rock branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and serves on the Board of Directors for Tyson Foods, Inc., and the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA). In 2007, Scott received an honorary doctorate from The King's College. He and his wife have three sons, Sam, Joe, and Will Ford; they are involved in a variety of sports that range from roping, golf, hunting and fishing.
