In the early 1990s, Hofstra University founded the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center [1]. The mission of the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center is to help businesses, public entities and community organizations on Long Island and in the metropolitan area succeed in their various enterprises, while simultaneously enhancing the opportunities for Hofstra University and its students.
The BDC is a multidisciplinary center offering human and technological resources for business support and education, as well as community service. It also supports government agencies in their own endeavors and in their efforts to assist businesses in the metropolitan area. The primary mission of the center is to offer assistance with people's business endeavors, (I.E.- start a new business, expand and/or diversify current business and develop new skills to help one run their business).
In cooperation with the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, the center provides a comprehensive package of expertise and services promoting economic development and job creation for the Hofstra community and Long Island. Combining the most respected members of academia and the Hofstra student body with the business community and governmental agencies, the center can provide the resources and services to fit individual and specific needs. The Business Development Center is located within the Axinn Library on Hofstra University's campus.
