Scott Ryan (Australian politician)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scott Ryan will be a member of the Australian Senate from July 2008. He was elected to serve a six-year term in the Senate at the 2007 federal election, after being placed in the third position on the Liberal Party of Australia's Victorian ticket. He won a tight contest for the sixth Senate seat for Victoria, against the Green's Richard Di Natale,[1] whom he defeated on preferences from the Family First Party,[2] confirming Family First's influence on Victorian conservative politics.
Scott Ryan is a former student politician and staffer to Victorian Liberal parliamentarians, and was reported to be factionally associated with former treasurer Peter Costello.[3] He was a member of the executive of the Victorian Division of the Liberal Party, holding the office of Vice President. His work background is in corporate affairs for pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline.[4][5]
