Scott Rolle

SCOTT L. ROLLE, June 30, in Washington, D.C. was the elected State's Attorney for Frederick County, Maryland from 1995-2007. At the time of his first election Rolle was the youngest elected State's Attorney in Maryland. On November 7, 2006, in a closely watched and hard fought race for Maryland Attorney General, he was defeated by Democrat Doug Gansler. Rolle had been personally recruited by Governor Robert Ehrlich, Jr and LT Governor Michael Steele to run for the position on their ticket. Rolle won 17 of Maryland's 23 counties in that race.

He is a graduate of the University of Dayton (1984), earned his law degree from Ohio Northern University (1986), and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Law Institute in Quantico, Virginia.

Rolle has been an adjunct professor of criminal law at Mount Saint Mary's University and Frederick Community College. He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association the West Virginia Bar Association and the Frederick County Bar Association as well as the United State's Federal District Court for Maryland and the United State's Army Court of Criminal Appeals. He was in private practice from 1991-1994. Prior to becoming State’s Attorney, Rolle served as the Assistant State’s Attorney and the Chief Narcotics Prosecutor for Frederick County, where he received many awards and recognitions for his aggressive fight against illegal drugs.

He was elected State’s Attorney for Frederick County for three consecutive terms starting in 1995, and ending in 2007. As State’s Attorney, Rolle established a Youthful Offender Program designed to identify at risk youth at an early stage. The program uses intervention techniques to attempt to place the youth on a more productive life path. He established Maryland’s first animal cruelty prevention and prosecution team to assist Animal Control Officers in investigating and successfully prosecuting animal cruelty cases. He also initiated a Mediation Project in an effort to keep minor criminal cases from clogging up the court system. He has been a strong advocate for victims’ rights and those of crime victims’ families. Rolle personally prosecuted some of the most complicated and high profile cases in Frederick County history, obtaining convictions in all of them.

The Daily Record newspaper cited Rolle in 2005 with its prestigous Leadership in Law Award. He has been awarded the Governor’s Citation for his work in the area of forfeiture of drug dealer assets and as Chief Narcotics Prosecutor. He was named Outstanding Young Marylander in 1999 by the Maryland Jaycees for his community service work and work as a prosecutor.

Rolle has appeared on many national television and radio programs such as "Larry King Live", The O'Reilly Factor, Rita Cosby, Greta Van Sustren's Burden of Proof, and many others. He has been quoted in the Washington Post, LA Times, and New York Times as an expert on criminal defense and criminal law. Upon leaving the State's Attorney's office, Rolle began his own highly successful law firm, the Law Offices of Scott L. Rolle, LLC, located at 3 West Church Street, in Frederick, MD. 301-228-3737. He employs two associate attorneys, Jason Shoemaker, and Joseph Edlow. The practice handles criminal cases, personal injury/tort matters, domestic relations and business law along with wills and estates. he has successfully defended numerous high-profile criminal matters around the state of Maryland. Rolle joined the United State's Army Reserve in September of 2001. In January of 2008, he was called to serve on active duty in the United States Army as a Captain. He was mobilized for a one year tour and is stationed at FT Meade, Maryland. He is responsible for most cases arising from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. In 2006, Rolle was called to serve as an attorney in the Court Martial of SGT Michael Smith, the dog handler at Abu Ghraib prison. CPT Rolle is widely credited for the light sentence SGT Smith received based on Rolle's argument to the military jury at sentencing. CPT Rolle has been awarded numerous military commendations including the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, The Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Rolle currently resides in Frederick, Maryland. He has two teenage children, Scott, Jr., and Devon Elizabeth
