Scott Free (musician)

Scott Free is a Chicago-based queer punk/folk/rap artist. He received two Outmusic Awards in 2005. He was named Outmusician of the Year for his CD 'They Call Me Mr. Free' and his community activism. His song "Another Day of the Cruelty" was named Out Song of the Year. He was inducted into the Stonewall Society's GLBT Hall Of Fame in 2005. He was named the Windy City Times 2001 Artist of the Year.He hosts the annual 'Queer IS Folk Festival' (an LGBT folk music festival) at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, now in its fifth year. He is the host and curator of 'Homolatte', the longest-running weekly queer performance series in the country, at the Big Star Cafe in Chicago.

Scott's first full-length release was a queercore CD called Getting Off in 1997. His second release The Living Dead, in 1999, received 4 Gay/Lesbian American Music Award nominations. He joins an infamous lists of artists whose works have been banned by government agencies (the City Hall of Chicago in the winter of 2001). Scott's latest CD, a 2004 release, is entitled They Call Me Mr. Free.
