The Scotswood Bridge is one of the main bridges crossing the River Tyne in North East England linking Scotswood and Blaydon.
[edit] History
The first bridge across the River Tyne at this location was the Chain Bridge designed by John Green and built between 1829 and 1831. It was a suspension bridge with two stone towers from which the road deck was suspended by chains.
[edit] The current bridge
The new bridge was designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson and built by Mitchell Construction between 1964 and 1967. It links Scotswood on the north bank with Blaydon on the south bank of the river. It is a box girder bridge carrying a dual carriageway.
