Founded in 2001, by husband and wife team Jennifer fontaine and Kerem Hanci, Scorpio Rising Films remains committed to supportive collaboration with devoted and impassioned artists, encouraging original and inspired material. This independent film and television production and distribution company focuses on fostering an atmosphere of cooperative creativity in each project they undertake.[2]
Scorpio Rising Films has effectively piloted numerous projects, including Mementos, an award winning[3] short spoof of Christopher Nolan’s thriller Memento which had its West Coast Premiere at Dances With Films[4] and was an Official Selection of the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival. Mementos also snagged a Best Actor award at the New Haven Underground Film Festival. Most recently, The Clown Project, a mocumentary webseries, which follows the lives of Boob (Bruce Wexler) and Drippy (Julien Schwab), two dedicated clowns trying to spread joy, bowed online concurrently at www.clownprojecttv.com and NOLA.com April 1st. Scorpio Rising Films has teamed with Brad Wyman and Junction Films to development The Clown Project's second season.[5] In the summer of 2004, Scorpio Rising Films embarked on its first foray into feature producing with Scott Somerndike’s romantic comedy 3 Wise Women[6] and their film, The Last Time We Were..., which was honored with a Silver Remi at the 2006 WorldFest Houston[7], played to packed houses at The Los Angeles International Shorts Film Festival[8] and The Beloit International Film Festival.
In 2006, Scorpio Rising Films and Mark Bernier’s Jackie Frost Films joined forces to co-write and co-produce the crime thriller Glass Houses. They have since, successfully packaged the film and start principal photography in New Orleans March 2009. Their development slate includes seven more features; The Taxi Bride, Liz, LA Talking, Thunder on the Mountain, Anna, Meat Men and Stealth.
