Archie Semple: clarinet player who was a mainstay of the 1950's Alex Welsh Band, and whose own playing veered between Edmund Hall and Pee Wee Russell. When, at the Manchester Sports Guild, Pee Wee heard his British admirer for the first time, he asked "who's this guy playing my licks?" it had to be explained to him thatSeple was a life-long admirer, and not someone ridiculing him
