Simon Christopher Jessey (born 6 March 1971) is a British web designer and college instructor, currently living in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
[edit] Biography
Simon Jessey was born in Rochford, Essex, the son of Michael Jessey and Brenda Jessey (née Chorley) and spent most of his childhood in Ashtead, Surrey. His parents divorced in 1987, eventually necessitating a move to the nearby town of Fetcham, where his mother continues to reside. Between 1988 and 2001, he worked as a videotape editor for a Wandsworth-based corporate video production company.
Following an internet romance, Jessey met and married Deborah Ryan (née McCown), an American web developer for the Vanguard Group, and the mother of two children. After settling down in the USA, Jessey began to devote more of his time to his passion for the web. Gentle prodding by his wife set him on a path that would lead to his enrollment in a business school. After graduating in March 2004, with a 3.99 GPA and Alpha Beta Kappa honors, Keystone Websites became the focus of his attention. The company quickly established a reputation for creating accessible, elegant websites for small businesses and organizations.
Jessey has been studying HTML and its presentational sibling CSS since arriving in America. Every website he works on is carefully constructed to adhere to web standards promoted by the World Wide Web Consortium, and guidelines for accessibility. He talks passionately (and often) about web standards - the separation of structure and content from layout and presentation in particular.
[edit] Politics
Jessey describes himself as a conservative liberal. From the liberal perspective he is pro-choice, a secularist, and believes strongly in free speech; however, he advocates minimizing the tax burden and reducing state intervention. He is very outspoken about his dislike for government corruption, for lobbying, and for any kind of pork barrel politics.
[edit] Religion
Jessey categorizes himself as an explicit atheist, insofar as he regards the concept of a god or gods to be ridiculous. He believes that religion (particularly "organized" religion) does more harm than good, and should be actively discouraged.
