Scimitar (also known as Anvil[1]) is a game engine created by video game developer Ubisoft for use on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was first notably used in Ubisoft Montreal's 2007 title Assassin's Creed, which was nominated for many awards that emphasized game's technology and visuals.

The engine uses Autodesk's HumanIK middleware to correctly position the character's hands and feet in climbing and pushing animations at run-time. [2]
