The Science Police is a fictional police force in the DC Comics universe. It serves as the police force of the United Planets in the 30th century, and it has had various relations to the Legion of Super-Heroes throughout the publishing history of the team.
[edit] History
Several Legionnaires have been SP cadets before joining the Legion. In the Legion's original continuity, Colossal Boy was training on Mars when he gained his power; in the rebooted (post-Zero Hour) continuity, Saturn Girl met Legion co-founders Garth Ranzz and Rokk Krinn while traveling from Titan to Earth to begin training at the Science Police headquarters in Metropolis.
Other Legionnaires have joined the Science Police when they were no longer able to serve in the Legion, most notably Kinetix and the depowered Dyrk Magz following the disbanding of the Legion in the post-Zero Hour run of the series.
Legion Liaison Shvaughn Erin, while nonpowered, has played large roles on the team in all versions prior to the most recent, to the point that she has sometimes been referred to in the comics as "Liaison Lass."
At the beginning of the current or "threeboot" version, relations between the SP and the Legion were antagonistic, though things have cooled a bit since the Legion was officially recognized by the UP.
In the Silver-Age continuity, the police force of Superman's home planet Krypton was also called the Science Police. The Science Police continued to patrol the bottle city of Kandor after Krypton was destroyed.
Recently in 52, Metropolis PD has established a Science Police division.
[edit] In other media
The Science Police have appeared in the Legion of Super Heroes animated series. They are shown to consider the Legion as "freaks", and resent their interference in police business.
