Category:Scientific expeditions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This category includes expeditions whose primary or secondary purpose is scientific research and discovery, such as Charles Darwin’s voyages on the Beagle. The category does not include commercial expeditions, such as some of the early whaling expeditions to Antarctica. Also not included are strictly discovery expeditions, such as the early expeditions of the Spanish explorers to the New World. Many expeditions had a chief purpose of discovery, such as the Lewis and Clark Expedition, but were also commissioned to study the geology, botany, and zoology they were to be found in the unexplored lands.
