Barnstars and such are informal. Put yours whereever it makes you happy; most people put them on their front page or on a subpage. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 09:32, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Siegfried Wagner

I saw your note at Talk:Siegfried Wagner about possibly consulting a reference regarding Walter Aign. Have you had a chance to do it? I was wondering because he's mentioned twice in Brigitte Hamann's Winifred Wagner, but is unambiguously identified as "son of the Reformed Church minister in Bayreuth" and as a close friend of Seigfried. His brother Robert Aign was originally appointed to chair the denazification procedings involving Winifred, but declined apparently at least partially because "there was a danger that, in the over-heated atmosphere of the courtroom, old stories would be revived, and that was not in the interest either of the Aign family or the Wagners." (Presumably these "old stories" were that Walter Aign and Siegfried Wagner were lovers.) On the other hand, this web page definitely makes Walter Siegfried's illegitimate son by Maria Elisabeth Dorothea, second wife of minister Karl William Aign. So it sounds as though there is some question as to exactly what the relationship between Walter Aign and Siegfried Wagner was.... - Nunh-huh 16:08, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I only ask because (1) it'd be nice to nail this down, and (2) I'm rather curious. I suspect that Aign is indeed Wagner's illegitimate son, and can't imagine why Hamann chose not to address this.... - Nunh-huh 17:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
For what it's worth: the Spotts book is for sale on Amazon, and consequently its index can be seen. It doesn't contain an entry for Aign, Walter. I look forward to your report :) - Nunh-huh 18:25, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dissonance

Thanks for your help on the dissonance quartet once again, I replaced the minuet (forgot the copyright statement before!). Best wishes for the New Year - Graham. Grahbudd 20:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Malcolm MacDonald (writer on music)

Not persnickety at all, thanks v. much. Not sure what to do about references - most of this comes off the flyleaves of various of his publications. Must do an entry for 'Malcolm MacDonald (composer)', and was surprised to discover there apparently isn't a Wiki page for Bernard Stevens. Will try to supply a start for one!Cenedi 20:08, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] William Verity Jr.

Today, you have edited this article commenting that it's a copyvio. In my opinion, the text doesn't quite match the given source [1]. If you disagree, or know any other sources whose copyright is infringed, please revert the article to the appropriate revision. This matter doesn't require admin assistance, because at least the first revision [2] is copyvio-free. Conscious 18:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Reaching

Tried to use a REDIRECT to Points of Sail#Reaching, but wiki doesn't seem to like it. Fairly new here, and not sure how to correct this.... Rex07

[edit] Wetz: Violin concerto

Hello, you are the author of the fine Richard-Wetz-Article on musikweb.uk.net, aren't you? I'm a Wikipedian from Germany and have contributed the articles about Wetz and his 2nd symphony to the encyclopedia. My newest article deals with Wetz' violin concerto. I'm sure you are interested to read it: de:Violinkonzert (Wetz) --de:Benutzer:Adrian L.

[edit] Benito Martinez

I noticed the "merge" tag. Very good call. What I did was create a redirect page from "Benito Martinez (Medal of Honor)" to "Benito Martinez (soldier)". The reasoning behind this is that the article "Benito Martinez (soldier)" was created before the other (Dec. 5, 2006), it contains all of the info and plus is much more complete (it isn't a stub). It is the responsibity of the creating party to verify and check to see if there an article already exsists of a subject before writing an article. Keep up the excellent work as always. [edit] Mozart PC 14

I see you have a cool almost-complete version of Mozart's 14th piano concerto here: User:Schissel/Tmp#Piano_Concerto_No._14_.28Mozart.29. Are you still working on it? Do you mind if I create the page and paste in what you've done? DavidRF 22:09, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Busy :)

Hey, hello again, it's been a while! I didn't manage to catch the performance of Ridky's 7th on Czech radio, but thanks for drawing my attention to this listening booth, and for introducing me, through your watchlist, to so many well-kept secrets in the vast classical repertoire. Translating the articles into English is also extremely helpful for refreshing your knowledge of languages. Best, Defrosted 20:04, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I hope it will be OK for you to upload the midis of the Scontrino quartet. And please keep up your adventurous curiosity in compiling those lists of composers who need homes on this Wikipedia. Defrosted 08:51, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Communal wishlist

Hello, you may be interested in the list of requested biographies of classical composers posted here. Inspired by your personal watchlists, I compiled the list after manually checking the articles indexed in the German de:Kategorie:Komponist (Romantik) and noting down those which were missing from the English edition, along with any other equivalent interwikis. The German Wikipedia seems to outdo the English (and every other Wikipedia) in its coverage of the Romantics and the same perhaps holds for the other periods too - which I don't intend to check right now since I need a break :-). [edit] Help Resolving a conflict

I have read the pages about this on wikipedia and I have came to you because you seem to be a person who knows how wikipedia is supposed to work and are most likely 100% neutral on this matter. I am involved in a rather intense edit war with two other editors of the article Miriam Rivera. In the last days the user User:Jokestress has quite reasonably asked for the article to be backed up with more reliable sources. Well I found them and that seems to have placated her. She has acted in 100% reasonable way in all of this. The problem arises in that she has asked in the spirt of resolving the conflict we were having other people who are not 100% neutral it seems to comment on the matter. These being the user User:Longhair and the userUser:Alison in particular who have not bothered to justify anything that they have done. Longhiar being an admin seems to feel no need to discuss anything and I feel is abusing her powers. Is there anything you can do? --Hfarmer 04:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: Enescu

Probably italicized--Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, etc. Incidentally, thanks for the compliment but I'm not sure my minor copyediting counts as "hard work"...though I will be doing some hard work on Enescu's article eventually, once I'm through with Szigeti...K. Lásztocska 20:24, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bruce McKay

Thanks for clarifying the categorization. I hadn't really dealt with establishing the categorization of an entry before and was unclear as to whether or not to include everything that applied. TealCyfre0 01:19, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Richard Perlmutter

Thanks for your notification about the copyright text. Maybe I forgot to address in the edit summary that I created this article through WP:AFC. In fact, the content was written by the IP but I was so negligent to recheck whether it was taken out from a (c) site or not. I'll paraphrase it. Best wishes. AW 03:42, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of composers and lists of compositions

Hey Schissel, thanks for your message. I agree fully with your proposal that a composer must be notable before his or her works may appear on any of the lists, in order to stop them from turning into promotional vehicles for free-riders without any other advertising outlet. The burden of establishing notability, I think, will be satisfied if the composer is documented in reliable secondary sources - which, for contemporary composers whose cause seems to be pushed the most regularly and flagrantly by vanity editors, might include newspaper reviews, etc. It would definitely help the case of individual composers if they have biographies on Wikipedia written about them either at the time of or shortly after their works get listed.

On a related matter, I was wondering if you knew anybody who has a Bot which could catalog all the composer biographies on the German Wikipedia which don't yet have English versions. The English edition seems to be falling further behind in this area. Thanks, Defrosted 10:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alfonso und Estrella

This is a note to explain that I am restoring the Operas cat, because this is the system we use on the Opera Project. It's been debated in the past and decided that we use the cat in this way. Thanks. -- Kleinzach 17:47, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] William Alwyn

Hi Schissel...

I undid your change and added a reference Beckus 15:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

It's on page 11. The source is Alwyn's son. Furthermore there is an interview with Malcolm Arnold where he tells that Alwyn's real last name was Smith and changed while he was at the RAM. Beckus 10:36, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tchaikovsky

I've been working on the Tchaikovsky article, rewriting and adding at least partly with feedback from peer review in mind, and partly to plug gaps in continuity that had escaped my notice earlier. Could you please look it over and give me your feedback? Another set of eyes at this point would really help. Thanks! Jonyungk 15:03, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Haydn's 26

Can you provide me the HCRL reference for the assertion of when it was authored? When I wrote the article, I think I pulled the date (I think - it was a while ago) after checking with the HCRL biography and so I am interested where the direct reference is. Thanks! Eusebeus 20:43, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the extensive answer - I have a fair amount more to say, but two quick points. 1) I checked in the Biography & you are quite right, HCRL gives the date as 1768 or 1769 so that is my idiocy in providing the wrong date. Second, I think that mention should be made about the fact that, ending as it does with a simple menuet, it is possible - no likely - that the work was simply the opening to a larger piece, presumably connected to the Passion. Several examples from Handel, etc... should suffice to show stylistic correlation. This detail, however, is NOT mentioned in HCRL. I am going to cross-post this to the talk page, since it may be useful to centralise the discussion. Cheers! Eusebeus 23:44, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] continuation from Cassado

"This is a comment about one piece, but your reaction to my comment tells me much". What do you mean by that comment? What does it tell you? I feel like you are making my criticism a personal one. I don't want to come off that way. But if you are going to put up a skewed review up you should expect a rebuttal.

[edit] Temperley

Yes, that was a slip of the finger in the edit summary; but Temperley is already credited in the bibliography and WP is no place for extolling our heroes (much as I am often tempted to do so myself), so I extended the comment in the biliography instead.Smerus 09:52, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cite templates (Boccherini symphonies)

Hello. I actually know extremely little about the citation templates. Thanks for the link, they look interesting. I copied your ref verbatim without checking to see that there was a date in there. I did go to the website to see that its still there yesterday. And I did get the ordinal numberings there -- I had only keys and catalog numbers on my other source (an online store, not as cite-able). There's still a few keys that need Boccherini symphonies added, but I ran out of time. Cheers. DavidRF (talk) 17:25, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of symphonies in A minor

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of symphonies in A minor, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). [edit] Re: Iain Hamilton

I used several sources for the page. The works list is defintitely from the Presser page with wikify changes made. I paraphrased from the pages listed at the bottom in the references section. But I will look over the material again. I am aware of the copyright regulations and I always attempt to respect them. Perhaps I am slipping. At any rate I appreciate your oversight and comments. I will check it.

[edit] Krommer picture

The Krommer picture is a scan I made from one of the very few that exist. The scan was taken from a picture in a edition of his music and it is difficult to imagine that substantial creativity went into making the reproduction (much the same as with the scan I made)brian stormer (talk) 16:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clifford Grey

Since most of your information on the Clifford Grey article is also on the Clifford Gray article, the best bet would be to have yours put as a redirect. Your thoughts on this. Chris (talk) 04:09, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Good job on the redirect. Chris (talk) 22:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ISSN

I've reverted for you. I considered unprotecting the template, but I think it is too high risk for that - i.e. if it gets vandalised, the vandalism will show up on a hell of a lot of pages, and be difficult to track down. Hesperian 06:49, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] George Onslow

Finally saw your query on the talk page of Arthur Onslow, who is the great-grandfather of the composer. See User:Choess/Onslow tree, which I put together for myself to track members of the family as yet lacking articles. Choess (talk) 02:46, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Looking for Wikipedians for a User Study

Hello. I am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. We are conducting research on ways to engage content experts on Wikipedia. Previously, Wikipedia started the Adopt-a-User program to allow new users to get to know seasoned Wikipedia editors. We are interested in learning more about how this type of relationship works. Based on your editing record on Wikipedia, we thought you might be interested in participating. If chosen to participate, you will be compensated for your time. We estimate that most participants will spend an hour (over two weeks on your own time and from your own computer) on the study. To learn more or to sign up contact KATPA at CS dot UMN dot EDU or User:KatherinePanciera/WPMentoring. Thanks. KatherinePanciera (talk) 02:12, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
