Types of mustard

A collage of six mustard images: Seeds of the mustard plant (top left) may be ground (top right) to make different kinds of mustard. The four mustards pictured are a simple table mustard with turmeric coloring (center left), a Bavarian sweet mustard (center right), a Dijon mustard (lower left), and a rough French mustard made mainly from black mustard seeds (lower right).

[edit] About me

I'm an arctic wolf furry.

I've been a Wikipedian since May 16, 2003, and a sysop since August 19 2003, although I actually did my first (anonymous) edits in 2001 already (here's one of my older edits; I'm actually pretty sure I started editing in the summer of 2001 already, but I can't find those edits anymore, and I can't rule out that I'm misremembering things there, either).

These days, I'm generally not very active anymore, although I will often fix typos, grammar, formatting and similar things. I guess that makes me a WikiGnome, although I have to admit I don't find the term to be entirely flattering. Outside of this, I've done a couple of contributions to Wiktionary as well (mostly Icelandic words), but I'm not really active there anymore, either.

The reason why I'm not more active on Wikipedia is the unfortunate amount of policy creep and wikilawyering going on. I refuse to deal with the current jungle of rules, regulations and – particularly – ego trips present in the Wikipedia: namespace; I will follow rules and regulations that make sense, but I will do so because they make sense, not because they were written down as rules, and I will not follow rules that interfere with my helping out with writing an encyclopaedia. I very much agree with the 5 pillars and see them as fundamental for both Wikipedia as a whole as well as my own work, but I also consider WP:IAR and WP:BB to be crucial.

In short, if you disagree with something I do, you're more than welcome to talk to me about it, and I will be happy to explain myself; however, when you explain to me why you disagree with what I did, you need to do more than point to an obscure regulation or process. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy.

Generally speaking, while most people regard me as friendly and open, I'm rather antisocial, although this is neither by choice nor something I feel good about, so I don't participate in Wikipedia-the-community all that much really (although I do care deeply about Wikipedia-the-encyclopedia). I also dislike barnstars and userboxes (ones that aren't directly related to Wikipedia, anyway); the latter are useless and distracting, while the former – in my experience – tend to be given to each other by cliques of people and foster a "I'm better than you" mentality.

Feel free to talk to me, or send me an email. But let me reiterate the above: I hate policy wonks, and I hate it when my time's being wasted with formalities. If you have something to complain about that you can fix yourself, go and fix it instead of whining to me.

[edit] Committed identify

Committed identity: 6261fc92f71a681b954ba0832734e5d31851f604ec60e6c67a988f25e9f272b866fc3c06ea802c7672765ff42cc3d9cf9b4f9f60d580ec5288aac60bb8b12a91 is a SHA-512 commitment to this user's real-life identity.

In case you're confused now, the above basically means that if my account is compromised, I will supply a piece of secret data to a trusted user (e.g. a developer), who will then run it through the specified hash function and confirm that it does indeed match the hashed data given above, thus establishing that I am the rightful holder of this account even if an attacker locks me out of it after compromising it.
