[edit] Merge Schottenkirche with Schottenstift

This page should almost certainly be merged with Schottenstift, Vienna. This is the more common name (see the entry on the German Wiki and the website of the Stift itself ). "Schottenkirche' is more commonly used of the churches in Regensburg, Erfurt, Nuernberg, etc., although also of the Wiener Stift (see the disambiguation page on the German Wiki); this particular page ("Schottenkirche") should therefore be occupied by a disambiguation page. Will await comments before proceeding, best, --Javits2000 15:32, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I am now busy adding Infoboxes (Template:Infobox religious building) for the churches of the w:Category:Roman_Catholic_churches_in_Vicariate_of_Vienna-City Archdiocese of Vienna /Decanate Vienna City/ with a wikipage. I disagree with your proposition for the following reasons
  1. The Schottenkirche is a parish church as described hereafter Archdiocese of Vienna /Decanate Vienna City/ Parish Our Lady of the Scottish. It is neither a private chapel, nor an oratory of a religious community (part of the monastery). If we choose to go that way, what do with the Viennese Jesuit Church, Benedictine Church, Minor's Church, Augustinian's Church,...? All these churches are attached to their corresponding community.
  2. IMHO, sticking to the canonical classification of the Roman Catholic Church (Chapel > Oratory > Church > Mother Church) is preferable. It allows a systematic classification to be adopted for RC churchs, coherent with the Annuario Pontificio, the Yellow pages of the Holy See. It eases future update and quality control of the information. It is also important to keep in mind that most of the RC Churches are known by their given names and not their "official" one. In this case, I think we should say Basilica Minor "Unsere Liebe Frau zu den Schotten".
I would suggest to to add a {{seealso|Schottenkirche}} in the page Schottenstift (and viceversa ;-)
Let me know what do you think. Alberto Fernandez Fernandez 13:54, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Creation of the disambiguation page

I would suggest to list the churches of the (German-speaking) Scottish Monasteries to avoid misunderstandings. See Schottenkirche Alberto Fernandez Fernandez 14:43, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
