Scholastica was set up in 1977 in response to the need for an organized school leaving course using English as the medium of instruction but emphasizing equal proficiency in Bangla as a necessary prerequisite for a well-rounded education for Bangladeshi students. The school aims at providing the kind of education that will give students the choice of undertaking higher studies at home or, with equal facility, abroad. This aim has been fulfilled in large measure by Scholastica graduates who have attended or are attending some of the best colleges and universities all over the world. Many of them have returned home after completion of their courses abroad and are now aspiring young professionals. Through the years, the school has expanded rapidly to cater to the ever-growing demand for quality education in Dhaka. Until recently, the entire school was housed in rented buildings; however, in January 2001 the senior classes moved into new, custom-built premises. The innovative new building has upgraded the school's facilities to international standards. It has spacious and airy classrooms, fully equipped science and computer laboratories, comprehensive electronic and print libraries, an audio-visual language teaching center, sports facilities and an air-conditioned drama auditorium.
