Schlesisches Tor (Berlin U-Bahn)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Schlesisches Tor is an Berlin U-Bahn station located on the U1.
It is located in eastern Kreuzberg, near the Oberbaumbrücke, in the Bohème quarter commonly known as SO 36 (after a former postal code). The station is named after one of the southern city gates, the road that ran through it lead to Silesia.
The station opened on February 18, 1902 on the first Berlin U-Bahn line. During the division of Berlin, the station was the terminus of the U1, as the final station, Warschauer Straße, laid in East Berlin. The link was reopened in 1995. An intermediate station, Stralauer Tor, was destroyed in 1945 and not reopened.
