The schilbid catfishes (Schilbeidae) are a family of catfishes native to Africa and southern Asia.^[1] These fish tend to swim in open water.^[2]

The dorsal fin has a short base and a spine, but is completely absent in Ailia and Parailia. The adipose is also usually present. The anal fin base is very long. There are usually four pairs of barbels. The pelvic fins are occasionally absent in species of several genera.^[2]

The family name is sometimes spelled Schilbidae in scientific literature.^[2]
