Guidelines for my talk page:
If you have a query about my vandalism reverts, please see this FAQ before you comment on this page.
If I haven't edited in twenty-four hours, please consult a user on my "helpful people" list.
  • Remember to create a new section for each new topic (you can do this by pressing the '+' link or the "edit" next to "Sceptre's talk page"), and remember to sign your posts with ~~~~.
  • If you think I've made a mistake in reverting, revert it back and feel free to remove the warning. Please refrain from posting here - doing so creates clutter and means I have to archive my talk page faster than I should.
  • Due to a long-standing conflict I entered myself in two years ago, I will not mediate disputes on my page. I will give advice, but it is nonbinding.
  • I should respond within 24 hours, if I feel there is a need to respond, and unless you have an openly stated policy on conversation, or request for me to reply here, I will reply on your page.
  • Any questions about the bot should mention the word "bot" in the level header, and any requests for the bot should go to bot request subpage.
  • Any messages should be in English, and as clear and as legible as possible. As long as I know what you're saying to me, it's okay.
  • If you have a request for me, please be aware that, unless dictated by policy or behavioural guideline, a member of the Arbitration Committee or Wikimedia Foundation (either paid employee or advisory board), or Jimbo Wales, I am not bound by your request, but will take it into consideration.
  • Please remain civil at all times, and please, under any circumstances, do not refer to me as a Nazi - I'm much more liberal than that.
  • Please do not put substituted warnings on my talk page - I've been a member of Wikipedia for nearly three years and I was an admin for seven months, so you think of a warning, I've blocked for it, so I do know most of our policies. An exception to this is image warnings, as they serve to be informative too.
  • The page will be archived after 40 headings.
  • I reserve the right to remove any threads or revert any edits that I perceive to be in bad faith.
Violations of these guidelines may result in your post being removed or ignored.

Welcome

I saw you welcome me on my talk page. Thanks a lot. Nobody really properly welcomed me nicely for about 3 months. Do you think you can welcome BikeDog? He's been here for about 5 months with no proper welcome. Please respond on my talk page. Thanks. --S-man 21:43, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

P.S. I recently created a subpage where Wikipedians can post any websites they want! If you would like to post some websites for other Wikipedians to visit, go HERE. Thanks! --S-man 03:33, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

P.S.S. Hi! You might want to read my new online series of books, titled "Stuffed Animal Stories"! All of the stories were written by me, and I'm sure you will love them! If you like them, consider joining the fan club! You can see my whole series or join the fan club here! Thanks! --S-man 10:28, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Odd timing for your redirect of 1am to 5am

Hiya. You appear to have enacted the discussed redirection of 1am to 5am almost three days after the core reason for that the deletion proposal became moot. Did you note that a track list was added to the page subsequent to the votes? Given that multiple "redirect" voters mentioned that the article could be recreated "without prejudice" if this information were provided, do you see any problem with my recreating it? The stub seems relevant, as it contains details about this singer/songwriter's first release. Thanks. --ghoti 03:25, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of Orphaned Talk Page

Hi! The archived talk page for Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rivers would seem to have been deleted back in April, and someone just now noticed - ok, we're all a little slow.  :) The comment was:

16:22, 7 April 2006 Sceptre deleted "Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rivers/Archive 1" (orphaned talk page)

Could we get that restored, or can I get a better feel for the critera used to delete it? Thanks for your time! Kuru talk 12:37, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of BeatPick

Hi Will, can I ask about the closing of the AFD above? I count three serious Keep votes, four if you count the article's author, and four serious delete votes, including the nominator. This would certainly appear to me to be a classic case of no-consensus. Obviously there was a problem with newbie voting, but these shouldn't subtract from the serious keep votes. As for the rational of the voters, only two delete voters questioned the site's notability, the third brought up a rather random WP:NOT vote. The three serious keep votes all claimed that the site was notable enough for Wikipedia.

I don't normally ask about an AFD vote after it has closed, but I do honestly believe that you might have been mistaken in calling a 3-4 to 4 vote result a deletable consensus. Personally, I think that a "weak consensus" is an oxymoron, but either way, I think this should have fallen under the policy of "when in doubt, don't delete." Does that makes sense? — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 13:51, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Consensus is not the best word. Basically, there were two keep votes I counted as reasons to keep (Maddmax, Asbestos) against four delete votes, which is 4-2 to delete, which is where I used my judgement. Re-reviewing the AFD, I'll be happy to overturn the decision if you want to, as it now falls into no-consensus. Will (message me!) 14:50, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, I do think that 199's vote was just as valid as the rest (though I'm obviously biased, as I voted Keep as well). Personally, I'd be for changing the decision to a "no-consensus," but obviously it's your decision. It's not my article, so I'm not about to go to WP:DRV over this. — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 16:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it was. That's what prompted me for a undeletion when I reread it. Will (message me!) 17:47, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 18:14, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Sceptre! Perhaps you can consider changing your closing comment to explicitly say "no consensus"? I was quite confused by "restored per user request", and thought it meant the article had been userified or somesuch. Kimchi.sg 23:17, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Fred Wilson (venture capitalist)

How was the determination made to delete Fred? I've been an avid user of Wikipedia for over 2 years, and, in the scheme of things, Fred is the level of business-person who qualifies under notability.

In addition, the comments in favor, while from many newbies, were from educated, informed people familiar with the space. I agree we don't want sub-groups and communities polluting Wikipedia with vanity pages, but this is not one of those cases. And those arguing against displayed no notable knowledge, education, understanding of this category. So while a majority vote shouldn't carry the day, neither should the votes of those who are not qualified to pass on notability.

To take some of my own favorite entries, who, in my assessment would rank below Fred in notability: Yo la tengo Jeff Jarvis Cesaria Evora

I guess, on the positive side, this made me realize exactly how much I love Wikipedia, and has made me determined to participate more.

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Zeq's block

It's expected that blocking admins will post a reason for the block on the user's talk page. This has not been done in Zeq's case (as it was not done for me). You should probably either lift the block or give a reason for it on Zeq's talk page. Homey 20:58, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

  • The reason given in the block merssage was "Zeq and Homey stop being at each other throut" owever, Homey's block was lifted in minutes and mine was not. there was also a message about being "sick of me" with something that has to do with a pig. This (mention of a pig to a muslim or jew) is disgussting - soemthing I am sure you did not know because your life expriance is still not developed.

Will, I understand you enjoy blocking me. Actually I am willing to make a deal with you. Let's arrange for 1-2 days block every two weeks but let's cordinate it in adavance. This will give you the pleasure of blocking me and for me it will give me much needed vacation from wikipedia. Zeq 07:34, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

I am delighted by Your nomination, but you must understand one thing - I am rather unsure of whether to accept it. Trading Spaces on WP:UPH

Hey Will, I'm supposed to be revamping User:Tdxiang's userpage, but I'm not finding a whole lot of time to do so. I noticed you put down your name in the Renovators list and I was wondering if you'd like to take over the job? We haven't really gotten going, as for the past month either he or I have been away. Re unblock of IP 217.33.207.195

I know it's a bind when you get blocked from editing because of a shared IP, however isn't there a guideline somewhere about admins unblocking themselves? -- Francs2000 12:22, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't really apply to collateral damage. Since that school is a vandal problem area, maybe Sceptre should unblock, do his editing, and reblock the IP when he is done for time being. If there are no other useful contributors at his school, this should handle the vandalism to the satisfaction of all, and Sceptre would take the burden off of other users and admins who are spending time warning and blocking this IP all the time.
