[edit] Picture?

I have a picture of a DDR arrow that I cut out of a DDR screenshot. I'm not really a copyright wizard, but do you think a symbol like an arrow can be copyrighted? It would look nice on this user box. tiZom 06:30, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

The Unicode Consortium doesn't seem to think arrows can be ©'d, given the presence of ⇨ RIGHTWARDS WHITE ARROW (U+21E8) in the Unicode Standard. --Damian Yerrick () 02:19, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, I'm talking about a screenshot of an exact DDR arrow, which really isn't just a unicode character. I'd like to use it, but I don't know if they can copyright their "version" of an arrow. An example that leads me to believe otherwise is McDonald's: a unicode 'M' could not be copyrighted, but the Golden Arches are certainly owned by the corporation. But an arrow? I'm not sure... tiZom 06:41, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
I don't see how a particular drawing of a right arrow could be any less ownable under current U.S. copyright and/or trademark laws than a particular drawing of a LATIN CAPITAL LETTER M. Perhaps more importantly, this userbox covers DDR, PIU, and ITG, and the arrows of the three games look different. --Damian Yerrick () 20:38, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
I uploaded the image. It's at "Image:ddrarrow.jpg". Someone take a look and tell me what you think. tiZom 16:05, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

::I realized one thing that we forgot to consider. Instead of using a DDR arrow, we may use the arrow used in Stepmania. As the game use MIT License, we should be able to use its images without any copyright complications. SYSS Mouse 03:02, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Levels?

Maybe I'm thinking about this a bit too much, but I'd like to see a bunch of templates. The first thing I want is to separate the dancing games, and then introduce a few different levels, like is done for the language boxes. For example, you could have:

DDR-1: This user is trying to learn to play Dance Dance Revolution. DDR-2: This user can play some Standard songs on Dance Dance Revolution. DDR-3: This user plays Heavy songs on Dance Dance Revolution. DDR-4: This user can pass Oni courses on Dance Dance Revolution. DDR-5: This user is in the realms of Yasu and Take.

Thoughts? (And, as for the picture of the arrow, what are the copyright rules regarding someone just making an image that looks like the DDR arrow in a program like Photoshop?) Confusing Manifestation 13:27, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
