About Me

Hello, I'm Will. I'm 17 years old, and I come from somewhere near the towns of Huddersfield and Halifax in England. My birthday is on 3 March, and I was born in 1991, which makes me a piscean sheep. My username comes from the Tintin book King Ottokar's Sceptre, a series of which I have been a lifelong fan.

I'm a native speaker of British English, which is regrettably the only language I can speak without looking like an idiot. I know an odd smattering of French and German, having taken (but not done particularly well) both subjects in my GCSEs.

I do have a sense of humour, however, it is rather off-colour. I often refer to popular culture, like the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who, but with a personality more like the Ninth Doctor - I even have the Northern accent because, after all, lots of planets have a north. But be warned, I am rather sarcastic or sneering at times, especially when I am annoyed. I'm normally very nice, though, but I won't be if you're not.

I'm a fan of music, most notably bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Sigur Rós, Pink Floyd and 70s-era Genesis, and such soundtrack composers such as Howard Shore, Murray Gold and John Williams. My interests in television are mainly comedy, drama, and science fiction, such as Peep Show, Heroes and Battlestar Galactica My interest in films takes a similar vein, with movies like The Matrix and V for Vendetta. With literature, I am a fan of fantasy novels, most notably J.R.R. Tolkien's writings such as The Lord of the Rings (which I also own on DVD).

My email provider is Gmail (and I have Google Talk), and my ISP is Orange (formerly Wanadoo). I contribute mostly using Mozilla Firefox, but sometimes use Internet Explorer if I am in a public location. My computer runs Windows Vista Ultimate.

From January 2006 to August 2006 I was an administrator of Wikipedia. You are free to look at my logs of my tenure. Anyone is free to re-nominate me for adminiship. Since January 2008, I have had the ability to possess the automatic rollback ability. I'm also a member of the Mediation Cabal, but I take cases very rarely.

I have over 45000 edits. As of 11 March 2008, I am 248th on List of Wikipedians by number of edits. My wikiholic score is 18528, as of revision 174211397. I also run a bot, which sporiadically does tasks too tedious for the human hand.

I also have accounts on the Commons and on Wikiquote, although I edit the former very infrequently and sporadically edit the latter.

I value the quality of Wikipedia articles over the quantity. I support merging related articles that aren't particularly good, and deleting articles that violate policies and guidelines. If someone suggests that content in areas I'm active in is of a low quality, I will attempt to fix it, but will not be stubborn to fight if it can't be.

With regards to my actions, I do what I think is best for the encyclopedia. This means that I will ignore policies if they hinder progress and that I will, on occasion, do something unorthodox, such as remove nearly the entire content of a page that's very badly written. You may sometimes see me use the words fuck or shit, or see me explicitly label and close troll threads on the administrators' noticeboard. Most of these viewpoints, in particular my deletionism, are influenced by the departed user Elaragirl, who had similar philosophies to me, and whose blunt dedication in making the project better was admirable.
