According to our current article:

During the coronation, the Monarch holds the Sceptre with the Cross in the right hand and the Sceptre with the Dove in the left

Yet in the Queens coronation picture immediatly to the right, she is in fact not holding the Sceptre with the Dove in her right hand, she is holding a globus cruciger (Orb with the Cross), known as the Sovereign's Orb. I am not European, but I thought the "Orb and Sceptre" were fairly common and well known regalia for all monarchies. I had never heard of holding two scepres at the same time. The orb represents the known world or universe held under the care and domain of the ruler, under the blessing of god. Also is this article English centric, do other monarchies have a sceptre with the cross? Stbalbach 03:53, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

You are partially correct; at the end of the coronation, the Sovereign does hold the orb and sceptre. However, when St Edward's Crown is actually placed on the monarch's head, two sceptres are held instead. -- Emsworth 18:55, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
