SCENE Music Festival

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SCENE Music Festival is a one-day music festival held in downtown St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada since 1996.[1] The event is held annually in early July. The acronym "SCENE" stands for St. Catharines Event for New Music Entertainment.

The first festival in 1996 drew about 800 people. The event in 2003, seven years later, was attended by around 2,500 and featured 85 bands.[1] The 2005 event received corporate sponsorship from Solo Mobile, which also sponsored the 2006 festival. Originally slated to sponsor in 2007 and 2008, but in early June 2007 before the full band lineup had been announced, all mention of Solo disappeared. A few weeks later the MTV logo began appearing and it was revealed they would be the presenting sponsor for 2007.

The festival features mostly alternative music and has hosted such groups such as Sydney, Alexisonfire, A Northern Chorus, Billy Talent, Boys Night Out, Cauterize, City and Colour, Crush Luther, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Johnny Truant, Magneta Lane, Raising the Fawn, dodger, and The Black Lungs.[2][3] The first 2000 people to enter the festival receive a compilation CD free of charge featuring songs by bands performing in the festival in a given year.[1]

S.C.E.N.E. 2007 was held on Sunday, July 22, with Bedouin Soundclash and Moneen headlining the event.[4]

S.C.E.N.E. 2008 will be held on Sunday June 28. Headliners have yet to be announced.
