[edit] Degrassi peer review

Thanks for the review you did here. I just have two questions to two points you raised:

  • The third paragraph in "Main roles" is another list. Is this information really necessary? How about picking three of the most prominent characters, and discussing their roles and the actors who play them in greater depth?
    • The problem with that is it's a truely ensemble cast, and where as Lost, which is also an ensemble show focusses on Jack, Kate and Locke nearly every episode, Degrassi characters only prominently feature in one or two episodes per season and appear as background characters in another two or three. So I just removed the para-list completely.

and

  • Why are the notes in a box? I'd much rather see them as a normal part of the article, like every other page.
    • This was a suggestion made as part of PeterSymonds's peer review, as the ref list is extremely long.

If you could follow this up with responses, I'd appreciate it greatly. Everything else you raised I addressed. You can reply here or on my talk page if you want, as I didn't reply at the peer review. Thanks, -- αŁʰƏЩ @ 00:07, 29 March, 2008

[edit] Talk:Meerkat Manor#Meercat Manor.23National Variations

Hi, sorry for intruding but it has been suggested that you might help resolve a very minor point of English grammar. If you have time I would appreciate it. Abtract (talk) 19:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gilberto Gil

Per Wackymacs (talk · contribs)'s recommendation to get copy editors (I found you on the PR volunteers list), I was wondering if you might be able to take a look at Gilberto Gil and do some copy editing, as it failed its recent FAC due to concerns with prose quality. If possible, drop me a line. Thanks, --Kakofonous (talk) 15:16, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Copyedit help

Hello Scartol. I am looking for someone to copyedit Textual criticism, which I am working on toward FA status. Interested? Drop me a line if so. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 16:02, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Peer Review help

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your thoughtful comments. PR requests get put on the backlog list after three days with no reply. Lately I have been getting to them after about 5-6 days with no response (I do the oldest ones first). The main difference with PR versus GAN and FAC is that PR requests are removed after two weeks with no response, while GAN and FAC stay there until they get a response. I think some comments are more helpful than zero comments or just one comment (see Wikipedia:Peer review/May 2007 for how things used to be - about 1/4 got no repsonse at all and another 1/4 got maybe a sentence or two). I also find that about half of the requests are for articles that are nowhere near ready even for GA, so just saying expand the lead, add refs and make them consistent, pointing out areas for expansion, and problems with images is useful. I also note that almost every FAC article comes through PR and many GAN one do too, so improvements in PR make hopefully better articles and less work for GA and FA reviewers. Yours, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The FA-Team

Hi. There has been some discussion of how to improve the FA-Team's functioning. It's be grand if you could comment on the new suggested structure, and perhaps also look at our current proposals. Thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 18:39, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Le peau de chagrin

Resolved. I looked at it more closely and realized the heds refer to titled works. So I just italicized them per MoS and common convention. Daniel Case (talk) 14:06, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] La Peau de chagrin

Updated DYK query On 31 May 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article La Peau de chagrin, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] Emmy Noether

Hi Scartol, I've only started reading the Emmy Noether article. However, I feel the prose needs to be refreshed. My main concern is that (from my first read) I didn't find the text flowing at all. Maybe the sentences and too long, or too chopped up or sometimes else. I see you have received a few "copyedit" barnstars, so maybe you could try fixing it a bit. I have exams at the moment but I'll try to point out more issues soon: this is a great article. Randomblue (talk) 11:10, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the fourth paragraph in the lead should be cut by half. I propose (very first draft):

Noether's mathematical work focuses mainly on algebra, and has been divided into three "epochs". In the first epoch (1908–1919), she made important contributions to invariant theory. Most notably, Noether's theorem has been called "one of the most important mathematical theorems ever proved in guiding the development of modern physics".[4] In the second epoch (1920–1926), Noether studied commutative rings, working out the theory of ideals in such rings. In her esteemed classical paper Idealtheorie in Ringbereichen (1921) she gave the first definition of a commutative ring and used ascending chain conditions to prove an analog of the fundamental theorem of arithmetic. In the third epoch (1927–1935), she worked on noncommutative algebras, as well as uniting hypercomplex numbers and the representation theory of groups with the modules and ideals of rings. She is credited with formulating a theory of modules and ideals in rings that satisfy certain finiteness conditions. Noether was generous with her ideas, and is credited with several novel lines of research, even in disparate fields such as algebraic topology.

[edit] Request for a copyedit?

Hi there. I was wondering if you could copyedit 1965–1966 Central African Republic coup d’état? Wackymacs requested that the article be copyedit by a fresh set of eyes. Thanks, Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 13:15, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh sorry, I didn't see the image up top. If you don't have the time, that's fine. If you do, I'll appreciate whatever you can copyedit, whenever you're available (even a week from now). Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 16:22, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
You told me to contact you today about the copyedit. Are you available to look at the article or are you still busy? Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 02:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Alright, no worries. Real life always takes precedence over Wikipedia. Good luck with everything. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 02:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A reply on Peau de chagrin

Hi Scatrol, regarding your query about the language of the written piece, it is with no doubt Arabic. Also the translation is 90% accurate except in the last two lines. The phrase "So be it" better to replaced with "Amen". HaythamAbulela 18:36, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Have to dash, but...

...will keep working. I threw up some notes on the ascending/descending chain conditions here, and I think I've finally gotten a handle on ideals beyond just their formal definitions. I'm starting to get it, even if I haven't had time to write everything up :) I'll try to do more learning tonight after work. Willow (talk) 22:19, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I have been learning a lot, and writing up some of it. Could you look at the table of her students and the chain conditions blurb? But everything's quiet at the FAC, and we might be able to coast to that bronze star? Ordinarily I wouldn't take the lazy route, but I also don't want to rock the boat and cause stability concerns by adding a lot of new material and re-organizing things. What do you think? [edit] Copyediting

Hi Scartol, we've met in the past and discussed issues of copyediting before. I have recently nominated Zhang Heng for FA status. I was wondering if you'd take a look and see if there is any sore thumbs sticking out that might need fixing or at least improvement. Thanks!--Pericles of AthensTalk 18:32, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
