Having read the article in its current state (as of August 30, 2007), I feel that improvements can and should be made, and that the article should definitely not be merged with the entry for "scalar boson". There are several reasons why the merge should not proceed as suggested; 1) the scalar mesons should not be confused with the scalar Higgs bosons due to the very different structures of each and the extreme difference in masses, 2) the scalar mesons are involved in entirely different interactions and phenomenology from any other potential scalar bosons, and 3) the scalar mesons are themselves the center of recent and relevant debate regarding the nature of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) interactions involving chiral symmetry breaking and potential tetraquark existence. I would be glad to offer an edited version of this article in the coming days, along with enhancements to other meson-related articles, as these are within the scope of my personal expertise.
