Scat Daddy (born May 11, 2004 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Sired by Johannesburg and out of the mare Love Style, he was bred by Swiss book publisher and racing enthusiast, Axel Wend. Sold for $250,000 at the Keeneland yearling sale, he was bought by United Kingdom racing magnate Michael Tabor in partnership with Wall Street investment banker James T. Scatuorchio, a former executive with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
Racing at age two under trainer Todd Pletcher, Scat Daddy won the Sanford Stakes and defeated Nobiz Like Shobiz in winning the Champagne Stakes. He finished second to Circular Quay in the Hopeful Stakes and in his final race of 2006 was fourth in the 2006 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, far back of winner Street Sense.
Scat Daddy started his three-year-old campaign with a third place finish in the 2007 Holy Bull Stakes behind Stormello and winner, Nobiz Like Shobiz. However, Scat Daddy came back with a strong performance to win the Fountain of Youth Stakes and in his final race before the Kentucky Derby, scored an impressive 1 1/8 length win in the Florida Derby.
The colt finished 18th in May's Kentucky Derby and emerged from the race cut and bruised. In June he was retired from racing due to a tendon injury in his right foreleg that his handlers believe had its genesis in the Derby. Scat Daddy stands at stud at Ashford Stud in Lexington, Kentucky for a fee of $30,000.
