Scarsdale High School (SHS) is a four-year college preparatory high school in Scarsdale, New York, founded in 1917. SHS is considered as one of America's finest high schools.In its very first selection process, the United States Office of education named Scarsdale High School as "one of the 144 exemplary schools to which others may look for patterns of success."[1]
From the graduating class of 2007, 99.1% continued their education with college programs, and 96.7% entered 127 different four-year national and international colleges and universities. 20 students in the class of '08 (5.4%) were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, and 35 (9.6%)students received National Merit Letters of commendation.[2]
Currently in 2007-08, SHS has a professional staff of 163 with a 18 years median teaching experience. 98% of the faculty holds a Masters; 71% has 30 credits or more beyond a Masters; 10% has Doctorate Degrees. The student faculty ratio is 9.2 to 1. Most of the teachers are in their early 50's, and the teachers have one of the highest paying salaries in the country (44% had a base-salary of over $100,000 in 2005)[3].
SHS is currently in a green initiative to maintain a healthy student body and awareness. The high school is also making a switch from AP's to AT's.
