Scarlett Mary Nicholls is a fictional character in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. She is played by Kelsey-Beth Crossley and made her first appearance on March 2, 2007.

[edit] About Scarlett
Scarlett is the illegitimate daughter of the deceased millionaire Tom King who was murdered on Christmas Day 2006 after his marriage to Rosemary Sinclair.
The day of Tom’s funeral Scarlett’s mother Carrie showed up to pay her respects. Tom’s sons, Jimmy, Matthew and Carl, were a little surprised she was there as they had not seen her in several years. It was soon revealed that Carrie was a nurse to help the boys' mother, Mary, through her cancer battle, a battle that Mary would lose.
[edit] The reading of the will
The day after Tom’s funeral the family gathered together to hear Tom’s will at Home Farm and once again Carrie showed. The boys came to the conclusion that Tom had left her something after all she did for their mother. However as the reading of the will progressed it was revealed that Tom had left Scarlett 25% share in Home Farm and a 10% share in King & Sons to be held in trust by Carrie until Scarlett becomes eighteen. Carrie revealed to the shocked King boys that Scarlett was their sister.
Each of the boys took it differently: Jimmy was angry but mostly interested in knowing his sister (Jimmy has longed to have kids); Matthew was mostly interested in securing his security in the business and wasted no time in offering to buy out Scarlett for £500,000 but Carrie wouldn’t be swayed, and Carl was devastated because he saw this as a direct slap in the face of the memory of his mother.
[edit] Jimmy sees his sister
A little over a week after the bombshell Jimmy decided to visit Carrie to learn more about her relationship with his dad. But it didn’t take long before an argument started, ending with Carrie slapping Jimmy. As Jimmy got into his car, Scarlett walked past on her way home from school and they made eye contact. Seeing his half-sister for the first time clearly shook Jimmy.
[edit] Scarlett learns the truth
After Carrie learned that the King boys were arrested for their father's murder, she was livid and went straight over to Home Farm and stated that she didn't want her daughter having anything to do with the King's. Much to the delight of Matthew, Carrie said that she wanted to be bought out.
Jimmy didn't want to buy out his sister's shares but Matthew and Carl felt differently and went behind their brother's back. In order to get the shares on the cheap they cut-off any payments made from the King's to Carrie and Scarlett. Having done this Scarlett's school informed Carrie that that the payments had stopped and until they were repaid that Scarlett was suspended.
Carrie drove straight over to King & Sons at Pear Tree Cottage to have it out with Matthew and Carl. When Scarlett, who was told to wait in the car, saw Jimmy go into Pear Tree she followed and listened to Carrie having and argument with the boys. After overhearing her mother referring to her as the King's “flesh and blood”, she burst in, demanding to know what was going on. Jimmy told her, “We're your brothers. We had the same dad.” Shocked, Scarlett ran away.
Jimmy went looking for his sister and soon found her walking along the main road. She asked him, “If you're my brothers, where have you been for the last 15 years?” Jimmy managed to convince her that he and his brothers didn't know she existed, but now wanted her to be part of the family. He took her to the cemetery where Tom was buried, and told her that despite everything, their father was “a good man”.
Scarlett went back to Pear Tree with Jimmy where she demanded to know from her mother why she kept her family a secret from her. Carrie didn't want her daughter involved with the Kings so told her that one of them killed her father. Her desire to be apart of the family seemed to go away as she left with her mother.
Scarlett was reassured by Jimmy that it's untrue and she has become very close to her eldest brother after several heart to hearts and is keen to get to know her other brothers as well, much to her mothers horror.
[edit] Crush on Daz
On one of Scarlett's first times in the village she went to the village shop where she met Daz Eden. It didn't take long for Scarlett to fall for the mechanic, unfortunately for her Daz only saw her as a friend and went on to start a relationship with Penny Drury. Scarlett was heartbroken when she found the two kissing in a car at the garage. Scarlett continued to fawn for Daz, much to the amusement of Victoria Sugden.Daz appeared to soften towards Scarlett and was none too pleased when Victoria and Penny made fun of her.
[edit] Another family secret revealed
After a few months in the village Carrie and Scarlett were tracked down by Scarlett's aunt Lexi. Scarlett loved her aunt and admired her. Carrie was indifferent about the arrival of her sister and was shocked to find out that Lexi spent a year in prison in Mexico for drug trafficking. Scarlett too was concerned when she found out. Things were always tense between the Lexi and Carrie and during a heated argument Lexi revealed to Carrie that see knew she wasn't her sister but her daughter. Carrie couldn't accept that the truth was finally out and when she rejected her, Lexi left the village. When Lexi returned Scarlett discovered the truth and was in turmoil about her mother hiding yet another huge family secret from her. In time Scarlett forgave her mother and welcomed her sister. and they lived happy ever after.
[edit] Dating Daz
Scarlett's crush on Daz never went away and was happy when she learned that him and Penny had split. When Lexi and Scarlett managed to persuade Carrie and Jimmy to have her 16th birthday party at Home Farm with a handful of friends. However Victoria sent an email to everyone and a huge number of people turned up at the party. Scarlett got very drunk and professed her love for Daz before dragging him on the couch and start kissing him, but they were interrupted by Jimmy and Carrie with Jimmy giving chase to Daz. Jimmy eventually decided to let Daz and Scarlett see each other so gave Daz money to bring her out. When Scarlett discovered this she felt humiliated. After Carrie and Jimmy's relationship fell apart Carrie decide that it was best to start a new life in Canada. Scarlett didn't want to leave and Daz didn't want her to either. He revealed his true feelings for her and now they are going out together and staying in the village.
[edit] Daz's Birthday
On Daz's Birthday Scarlett buys him a gold id necklace. Going into Hotton to pick it up with Debbie, Debbie decides to play a trick of her own buying a nice pair of pants to spice up Scarlett and Daz's relationship, after Scarlett telling her there has not been any action in the bedroom. After returning home Debbie wraps up the braclet with the pants inside then giving it to Scarlett. Scarlett gives the present to Daz, as soon as he opens it, he puts it down straight away saying he will look at it later. After the present is revealed Scarlett storms off thinking Diane will think she is a sex addict.
