Scandinavian Customized Prosthesis (SCP) is a medical technology company developing and supplying orthopaedic implants.

[edit] Company History

The company is based in Trondheim, Norway and was established in 1991 on basis of joint research findings involving St. Olavs Hospital, Trondheim University Hospital and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. The company has developed their own, proprietary technology for computer assisted medical image processing and prosthesis design. They model their implants based on Computed Tomography images of the relevant joint or bones of the patient, so that it will fit perfectly to each patients anatomy. Their technology enables the surgeon to optimize the biomechanics of the patient's hip in patients with deviating or abnormal anatomy.

[edit] Products

SCP's main product is the Unique stem for hip replacement, but they also design and sell other products such as individually designed tumour prostheses, condyles for attachment of external prostheses, and implants for shortening or rotation osteotomies.

Planning of the neck design on the Unique stem is computerized with digital templates, and the surgeon can access all data regarding his patients on the Internet. In that way the surgeon can himself/herself make the necessary adjustments of rotation point, anteversion, medial offset etc from his/her own computer - it be at the office or at home, and when the surgeon is satisfied with the design it will be manufactured.
