[edit] Welcome from Ravedave

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome. -Ravedave (help name my baby) 21:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minnesota

Nice addition to the Minnesota article, with a good ref and everything. Did you see that it is going to be featured on the front page on May 11th? -Ravedave 17:33, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] editcount-itis

Checkout Wikipedia:WikiProject edit counters, I usually use [1] and beware of Wikipedia:Editcountitis :). -Ravedave 18:08, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images

FYI When adding images usually the thumb format with a caption is used, ex: [[Image:Curling Torino 2006 Pinerolo Palaghiaccio scena2.jpg|thumb|right|Curling at the [[2006 Olympics]]]]. This is done without a px size specified because users can specify what size they want thumbnails to be in their spreferences. The caption part is standard as well. -Ravedave 22:35, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ceiling fan article

Hello, Sbrockway, and thank you for your thoughts towards editing the Wikipedia article "Ceiling fan".

Your edits have been reverted because:

  • Edit 1: "(→Uses - vice versa in two story rooms)": the fact that a ceiling fan has a reduced effect when moved further away from the observers is (a) painfully obvious common knowledge, and (b) is already covered in the "Bases for comparison" section (subsection: Perceived efficacy).
  • Edit 2: "(→Uses - explain to define term stratifies)": the sentence "Air naturally stratifies--that is, warmer air rises to the ceiling while cooler air sinks to the floor." needs to be included as text, because not all browsers (notably text-based and slightly older ones) can display that sort of pop-up text, and not all users notice it, and that exact text is essential to an understanding of why ceiling fans have a winter mode. It is not long-winded or otherwise undeserved.

In the future, please make sure to request and discuss all of your proposed edits on the talk page, particularly if you are adding, removing, or altering statements of fact (as opposed to, say, small grammar and spelling errors).

Thank you for your many contributions! Piercetheorganist 01:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Explain

I don't believe the explain template is meant to be used in main space. I'll see about clarifying it on the template page. I've seen it mostly used for reviewing articles so people can copy sentences from articles and use the explain template to provide commentary. An example: Wikipedia:Peer_review/Campbell's_Soup_Cans. I also believe your edit is correct to the fan article, but if someone reverts your edits, the talk page is usually the place to go rather than re-instating. -03:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] eye movement in language reading

Thanks for your wikifications. In general, please avoid unpiped, simple year links and dictionary terms. However, here I guess that unfamiliar terms such as "cutaneous" are appropriate as links, as you've done. Nice. Tony 03:52, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

PS There is a way of making the wikification box that you've inserted in the talk page much smaller, which would be good coz it's ... pretty big. An example is at the top of the talk page to JS Bach. Thanks again. Tony 03:54, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Germany Invitation

Hello, Sbrockway! I'd like to call your attention to the WikiProject Germany and the German-speaking Wikipedians' notice board. I hope their links, sub-projects and discussions are interesting and even helpful to you. If not, I hope that new ones will be.

--Zeitgespenst (talk) 11:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

I was bored tonight and did a search for Minneapolis area Wikipedians on linkedin.com, and your name came up. I see that you know Ravedave, who I've met once at a Wikimeet and run into occasionally on Wikipedia itself, and that you do the same kind of work I do, so I thought I'd stop by and say hello. I'm presently working as a software development manager for a Fortune 500 company. Perhaps we'll run into one another at Wikimeet some time.

Kindest regards

The Uninvited Co., Inc. 04:26, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
