[edit] Great Pictures
You've been Dugg. I've just been going through your contributions, and I must say, the photos your Dad took are amazing. I love looking at them! (Corby 07:44, 13 August 2006 (UTC))
[edit] Metropolitan cathedral
Hi Sba2. I had deleted the picture of the Metropolitan cathedral since, if you have Internet Explorer (any version) you might find that it alters the layout of the sections (mainly the Sports section which includes a huge blank space). This is not the case if you use Firefox, but only 30% of Internet users use Firefox. I deleted the Metropolitan cathedral picture and not another one for three reasons: (1) it was the last to be added, (2) it is not crucial for a better understanding of the content of the article [as a matter of fact none of the pics is crucial] and (3) it is an old 1950s picture, not a recent one, which would more accurately portray today's landmarks.
If you strongly oppose the deletion for academic reasons, and not merely aesthetic ones, I propose that we include the picture in the History section, which has enough space and therefore it will not alter the layout by including blank spaces. Moreover, being a 50+ year old picture, I believe it would be the appropriate section for it. Notwithstanding my proposal, I still do not see the crucial need to add the picture. Let me know what you think.

- Oh, I am sorry. I see that you had already done precisely what I was proposing by putting the pic in the history section. Like the saying goes... "Great minds think alike". Cheers! --the dúnadan 18:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

- Hey this is in Manitou Springs, but I'm sure you figured that out. I've been importing some of your photos onto commons, noticed some are already there. They're going exactly as-is, w/ your attributes, names, & lic info.
- BTW those names are cumbersom, can they be changed? I know you want the attributes, but those are in the photo info... Grye 00:00, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- Hi Grye, I began adding names to the image file after an early vandalism incident. I noticed that it's more difficult for a vandal to alter the image file name on Wikipedia than it is to change any text info that goes along with that file.
-
- More recently, one of my images of London was posted on the digg.com site Dugg and, as a result, that image is on blogs and web pages all over the internet...but the image is not always linked to Wikipedia or coupled to the text info that went along with it. However, in those cases, the full image file name usually shows up...even when all reference to Wikipedia and all text is gone.
-
- Thanks for the commons uploads. Best regards, User:Sba2
- OK so keep original names, I'm gathering. Cool.
- A note though, from a (once) network engineer: you should really stay away from punctuation of any kind, of course / ? etc are illegal names, but on some servers commas confuse them too. for instance:
- "Aspen , 1962 , Kodachrome by Chalmers Butterfield"
- isn't good, if for no other reason than it comes out as
- "Aspen_%2C_1962_%2C_Kodachrome_by_Chalmers_Butterfield.jpg"
- And "Aspen_,_1962_,_Kodachrome_by_Chalmers_Butterfield"
- Alternately. better would be
- Aspen_1962_Kodachrome_by_Chalmers_Butterfield
- Cool, whatevs, just suggesting... thanks Grye 02:01, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] POTD notification
Hi Scott, just to let you know that the Featured Picture Image:London , Kodachrome by Chalmers Butterfield edit.jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on December 27, 2007. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2007-12-27. I was thinking of changing the accent of the caption to reflect this early Kodachrome work, which I think is more notable. Do you have any details of the format and/or processing lab he used?
Incidentally, I've been meaning to suggest you put your ballooning shot up for FPC. It probably needs some gentle noise reduction which I'd be happy to do for you, if you like. Whatever, it's one of my top 20 favourite shots on Wikipedia.. you really have your father's eye :o) --mikaultalk 09:09, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] London Photographs
Your father's colour shots of London are excellent, do you have any more?
I write for a publisher who is very interested in reproducing some (all?) in a book.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hiroshi Teshigahara (1).jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Hiroshi Teshigahara (1).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:19, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
