The campus that currently composes SCPS has served a variety of functions in its history. Creek Indians used the land the campus resides on as part of their homeland prior to the settlement of Europeans. During the American Civil War, the campus served as part of a battlefield. A historical marker exists on the campus to designate Shaws Bridge, which was used by the Confederate forces during their retreat from Savannah.[2] The campus also shortly served as a missionary boarding school. [3]
In 1954, the school renamed to the Savannah Christian School. In 1978, to recognize its status as a college preparatory school, it renamed to its current name of Savannah Christian Preparatory School.
[edit] Currently
Savannah Christian recently completed construction on a gym and is currently building a new day care and high school. The middle school is located on Derene. It will be moved to Chatham Parkway upon completion of the high school.
