Savage Skies is a PlayStation 2 game created by iRock Interactive, and is a combat flight sim in which the player can choose between three factions of mythical creatures. The three factions were created when the King of the land fell to the necromancer Mortalvis, and the land was divided into three. The first two were owned by subjects of the late king, whilst Mortalvis took the last third.
Each monster has two abilities, which differ between factions.
Contents |
[edit] Virtwyn
The first of the three factions is Virtwyn, a name possibly derived from the word 'virtue'.
Virtwyn creatures are the traditional monsters/creatures, like dragons, winged horses and giant birds.
It's ruled by the King's General, now King Anduras, and seeks to unite the kingdom once more in the late King's name.
[edit] Virtwyn Creatures
- Roc: A giant, fast moving eagle-like avian. Its two abilities are Sonic Screech and Sky Shield. Sonic Screech is a close range high damage attack, with the power to shoot through obstacles, while Sky Shield protects you from ground and air cannon fire, and lessens damage taken from hitting walls. Roc is available from the start.
- Yomar: A huge, winged cat with a quick dash attack and the ability to fire its claws. The quick dash is short range, but has devastating power, while the claw attack is long range, but potentially inaccurate. He is unlocked after the second mission in the game, in which you must destroy three sail barges which carry artefacts and skeletons taken from Virtwyn tombs headed for Pariah lands.
- Freband: A large, winged owl-like avian, his attacks are a ring of fireball-like objects and a shield-like protection, which damages opposition and heals allies inside it.
- Barg: The traditional dragon, with Gold Ball and Gilded Breath as his two attacks. Gold Ball is a medium range medium damage projectile and Gilded Breath is a close range breath attack with high damage. To get Barg, you must destroy the Pariah corpse gas harvesting plant.
- Pegasus: Winged horse, with a spiralling orb attack and a trail of burning smoke which damages all that is behind him. Obtained after you protect the Capital from Chrysalis attack.
- Rohn: An ice dragon with freeze breath and ice shards. Unlocked after rescuing the Prince from an ice labyrinth
- Zelit: The final Virtwyn monster, Zelit is a huge dragon, with the ability to regenerate his health and fire five small
meteor-like objects. Obtained once you destroy the Chrysalis Hive.
- Griffin: The secret Virtwyn monster, he is unlocked by either entering the "Unlock all monsters" cheat or completing the Virtwyn Secret mission. Griffin's attacks include the ability to shoot several fireballs and create a burning ring around him.
[edit] Chrysalis collective
The second faction is the Chrysalis collective. The monsters range from giant, mutated dragons, to flying eyeballs and more. The Chrysalis is ran by the King's alchemist,Kalavin, appearing to have the ability to make Virtwyn captives join the Collective using some kind of magic.
[edit] Chrysalis creatures
- Oculus: A giant, tentacled eyeball. Its abilities are the Ocubeam, which is a gold coloured laser which shoots from his eye, and Poison Ring, which spreads around him, causing damage. Occulus is available from the start.
- Mantou: A manta ray, his abilities include electrical balls and an electric arc, which attacks any nearby enemies by zapping them. He is unlocked by completing the second level, where you must destroy the Wizard's tower.
- Sidd: A large, frog-like creature with hooved feet. Its abilities are Needle Shooter, which is a row of continuous needle like projectiles, and three green blobs of poison, which travel at a fast rate and can attack up to three targets.
- Krum: A giant, winged ram. His abilities are the krum kannon and a green missile, which moves slowly, but doesn't explode until it hits something. It has a wide radius once it explodes, but damages both Krum and the enemy. The krum kannon fires snowballs which can slow down and damage Krum's enemy with a rapid fire attack. He is unlocked when you have to defend the Chrysalis Hive against either the Pariah or the Virtwyn.
- Thao: An legless dragon that seems to be better at moving on the ground than the sky. His attacks are a ball like projectile, which flashes different colours, and a poisonous trail that harms any who follow. He is obtained by protecting the Skytrees and making a trail through the minefield.
- Ulamander: Ulamander is a type of dragon which looks as though it isn't naturally suited to flight, because its synthetic wings are stuck to its sides, and requires its arms to flap them. His abilities are Thunder clap, and another basic ball projectile. The thunder clap is similar to Roc's sonic screech, but does a lot more damage. The ball projectile is very similar to the projectiles used by the other monsters, with similar damage rating.
Ulamander is unlocked in the battle in the ruins where you first meet the Champions.
- Kedle: A winged creature resembling a brachiosaurus, this monster seems to be female, due to its facial features. Her two attacks are a group of green balls and a shield of some kind which damages anything inside or near it. She is unlocked on the last level.
- Miraur: A winged unicorn that has an extra pair of arms, which resemble claws, just above the front legs. He shoots a basic ball projectile like most monsters, but is slightly more powerful than normal, and a charge attack which deals an extreme amount of damage that can even kill an enemy with one hit. He is unlocked by either completing the secret level or entering the "Unlock all monsters" cheat.
[edit] Pariah
The final faction is the Pariah. The necromancer Mortalvis has created an army from the bodies of the defeated soldiers. All the monsters are dark, dead or something hated. Some are elemental monsters. Their ability to harness Soul Crystals enable them to become more powerful than normal.
[edit] Pariah creatures
- Warloth: A huge bat with wings larger than its body and tiny feet. His attacks are a sonic screech not unlike Roc's and a vampiric bite a lot like Yomar's claw attack. His sonic screech has quite a long range and so has his vampiric bite attack. He is unlocked from the start.
- Gnaw: An ugly, winged rat with shredded wings, his attacks are a ball like projectile and a plague spew, which poisons any enemies that enter its radius. He is unlocked by completing the tomb raiding level.
- Portl: A big, ugly boar, similar to Gnaw, who's attacks are a Mud Ball projectile and a trail of dust that impairs the view of enemies and damages them. He is unlocked by completing the level where you must destroy the War Beast.
- Krushkor: A winged creature quite alike Krum, but more demonic and evil, his attacks are a group of ball-like projectile and a rush attack like Yomar's. He is unlocked by completing the level where you must collect the Soul Crystals and protect the pyre while it charges, then replace the crystals to summon Wraiths.
- Gormag: A strange flying eyeball, this monster communicates using what sounds like laughter. His attacks are an eye beam and a shield like Roc's. He is unlocked by completing the second mission, a race of sorts.
- Wraithslicer: An undead dragon, this one looks like he doesn't have any wings (the remainders of his wings look more like the skeleton of what they once were). His attacks are a basic ball-like projectile and a ring of the same projectiles. He is unlocked on the level where you must kill all enemies in the ruins where you first meet the Champions.
- Pytt: A large, tentacled creature, his abilities include a Blistering Breath attack and a burning ring attack. He is unlocked on the last level of the Pariah.
- Unikrom: A dead horse-like demon with only half a bottom jaw, he is the secret Pariah monster. His attacks are a ball projectile attack and an attack of several ball projectiles, which explode on impact. While the radius is small, it seems possible to be harmed by the explosion if it is shot at close range. Unikrom is unlocked by either the "Unlock all Monsters" cheat or by completing the Secret mission.
[edit] Unlocking
Once all the monsters are unlocked, they can be used on any campaign level (only Virtwyn monsters on Virtwyn levels etc.) and any multiplayer level (any monster can be selected).
There are additional items that can be unlocked, including cheats, such as vampirism, and in-game movie sequences.
