[edit] The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter

Please note, I requested not to receive this news letter some time ago yet it is still being delivered to me. Thanks. - Lee Stanley (talk) 20:19, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah. Hm. Where did you request that? I haven't programmed the bot to *not* deliver. I believe, though, that if you add {{bots|deny=SatyrBot}} to your page, the bot will not edit it. I think. I haven't really tested that much, though I *have* added the programming. -- SatyrBot (talk) 01:15, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
At Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Community#Different format as requested at the bottom of the newsletter. Alternatively, would it be possible to deliver it to User:Lee Stanley/LGBT Newsletter? - Lee Stanley (talk) 20:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reply to your request

I apologize for my actions: I asked for your services before consulting the rest of my task force. I have now left a message at our talk page explaining my idea, and I will reproduce it here for your convenience:

Request for bot assistance with tagging project

I thought it may be a good idea to use a bot (SatyrBot) to help improve the efficiency of our tagging and assessing operation of articles within our scope. However, I made the mistake of requesting the bot's services before discussing the idea with the task force. First of all, I want to apologize to you guys for doing that. Secondly, I would like to know your take on the idea. Here is the original request post I made for the bot a few days ago:

WikiProject Football/USA and Canada task force - This WikiProject is currently tagging articles within its scope. All articles in Category:Soccer in the United States (and all of its subcategories) need to be tagged with {{Football|USA=yes}}. Some of the work has already been done manually, but I am interested in increasing the Project's efficiency, and I thought SatyrBot might be the perfect solution. I would be very grateful if you could accommodate this request, but if it is not possible for whatever reason, I completely understand. Thank you! TFCforever (talk) 17:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you in advance for your feedback. TFCforever (talk) 02:45, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I will contact you again when I receive feedback from another member of the task force. TFCforever (talk) 02:53, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

No problem! Just wanted to make sure the project was aware and involved :) -- SatyrBot (talk) 06:47, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template doubling

Satyrbot added extra copies of two templates on this edit. For your information. Gimmetrow 01:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks - That issue has been fixed. -- SatyrBot (talk) 15:33, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP Australia templates in article space

Hi, perhaps Henry George Smith and lots of others should not be tagged this way ? can you please fix this error - ta - Peripitus (Talk) 09:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks!

[edit] Talk page content deletion

Hello. Your bot seems to have misread the odd placement of RPA templates before the first heading of a talk page, and deleted some innocent content, in this edit. --McGeddon (talk) 09:36, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks - that one's sort of a known issue that only happens rarely. I'll see what I can do to fix it. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 14:51, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Naturalised flora

G'day SatyrBot. Just thought I'd mention that I just created Category:Flora naturalised in Western Australia and have been busy populating it. I see this as one of those few categories whose contents should not be tagged into WP:AUS. If you really think it should be, I won't argue. I'm just letting you know so that you will stop and think about this one, rather than doing it on autopilot. Hesperian 05:09, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Hesperian! The bot is working off the list generated by WikiProject Australia, located at: User:Moondyne/AU categories. One assumes they/you have put thought into what categories should be done by the bot =D Unless you add your new cat to the list, the bot won't be going through it. Hope that answers your question - and if you have any more, please reach me on my talk page? Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 06:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of talk page header

I just wanted to point out to you that your bot removed the talk header from the Northern Illinois University shooting talk page when it added the Chicago project header. Not sure if this is a bug or not in the bot but this is a heavily edited article and the talk header should not have been removed when adding the new Chicago header. will381796 (talk) 15:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Will! I'll look in to what happened. IIRC, the bot is programmed to keep {{talkheader}} if it sees it. Sorry about that! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 23:01, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Banksia

Dear SatyrBot, I am about to revert your addition of the WP Australia template to all talk pages that already had the WP Banksia template on it, as the WP Banksia template already handles WP Australia tagging. Hesperian 06:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

My dear robotic friend, you're tagging the talk pages of redirects! All Banksia articles are at the scientific name. The articles themselves are tagged into Category:Banksia taxa by scientific name. The redirects (or in some case, disambiguation pages) from the common name are tagged into Category:Banksia taxa by common name. You've gone and tagged the talk pages of all those redirects into WP Australia, you big dill. I'll be deleting those. Hesperian 06:08, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Hesperian! WP:AUS has the following list of cats in the bot's "to-do":
  1. Category:Banksia
  2. Category:Banksia cultivars
  3. Category:Banksia integrifolia
  4. Category:Banksia sect. Banksia
  5. Category:Banksia sect. Coccinea
  6. Category:Banksia sect. Oncostylis
  7. Category:Banksia ser. Abietinae
  8. Category:Banksia ser. Banksia
  9. Category:Banksia ser. Bauerinae
  10. Category:Banksia ser. Crocinae
  11. Category:Banksia ser. Cyrtostylis
  12. Category:Banksia ser. Dryandra
  13. Category:Banksia ser. Dryandroideae
  14. Category:Banksia ser. Grandes
  15. Category:Banksia ser. Prostratae
  16. Category:Banksia ser. Quercinae
  17. Category:Banksia ser. Salicinae
  18. Category:Banksia ser. Spicigerae
  19. Category:Banksia ser. Tetragonae
  20. Category:Banksia ser. Tricuspidae
  21. Category:Banksia stubs
  22. Category:Banksia subg. Banksia
  23. Category:Banksia subg. Isostylis
  24. Category:Banksia taxa by common name
  25. Category:Banksia taxa by scientific name
  26. Category:Taxonomy of Banksia
So should I remove those categories from the bots "to do" list? Never mind - it looks like it already went through all of those cats. Sigh. Should I remove the banner from those pages?
And the bot should know better than to tag redirect pages - can you give me an example of one? That's an error that needs to be fixed. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 14:49, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Everything in Category:Banksia taxa by common name was tagged, but I deleted them all. Would you like me to undelete one for you? It won't tell you much. I suspect it just never occurred to whoever coded the bot (you?) that redirects would be categorised in this way.
While it was definitely the right thing to do to delete those redirect talk pages, I'm having third thoughts about my rolling back the article talk tags. The Banksia tag handles WP BANKSIA, WP PLANTS and WP AUS tagging, but it doesn't handle subprojects of WP AUS. For example, the only way to put Banksia epica into WP:WA is to add an otherwise-redundant WP:AUS tag that specifies the subproject. Each Banksia species article should be in the state subproject(s) for the state(s) in which the species occurs, so each Banksia article will need a WP:AUS tag, with the exception of a very few generic articles such as Banksia, Taxonomy of Banksia and Ecology of Banksia. And it wouldn't really do any harm if these ones were tagged too.
So for the list above, I suggest you remove Category:Banksia taxa by common name, and leave the rest in. I'll revert my ten-ish reversions on legitimate talk pages.
(For background on the cause of all this kerfuffle, you might be interested to read the first two sections of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australia/Future.)

[edit] Malfunction?

The bot appears to be malfunctioning somewhat. When adding {{WP Australia}} to "Reginald Hugh Hickling", it choked over the {{ArticleHistory}} template and left behind "||||||||||action2link=Talk:Reginald Hugh Hickling#GA Sweeps (kept)|||||". — Cheers, JackLee talk 14:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Hm. It appears to have had an issue with the "|" on a line all by itself. I'll check the code and see what caused that and how to fix it. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 14:44, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure this is fixed. Thanks again for pointing it out! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:40, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] maybe he was born in Australia? ;)

When you have a moment, could you explain the WP:AUS part of this edit?--Rockfang (talk) 16:32, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Rockfang! The article is in the Category:Fictional Australians, which is on the list of categories the bot is going through to add banners. If you have any more questions, let me know on my User talk:SatyrTN talk page? Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:39, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP:AUS additions to talk pages

Greetings bot/bot owner.

The text '{{WP Australia |class=Stub |importance=}}' has been added to a large number of Talk: pages, for no apparent reason (that I've been able to track down). The edit summary given is 'SatyrBot adding WP:AUS WikiProject banner (S42)'. I noticed this originally via Talk:Freestyler (song); a pop song by a Finnish band. —Sladen (talk) 23:48, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

I came here to ask about a similar issue, the addition of this tag to Talk:Tony Wilding. Tony Wilding is a great New Zealand tennis player, not an Australian. He played for the Australasian Davis Cup and Olympic tennis teams, but Australasia goes beyond Australia, so I would suggest leaving Australasian categories out of these runs. Or did you add the tag based on him winning the Australian Open? That seems a big stretch, but might be similar to the example above (a number-one single in Australia, with no other apparent connection to the country). -- Avenue (talk) 11:52, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Serious bot errors

[1] [2] This needs to be fixed before you do any more tagging jobs. [3] [4] The bot is also adding "nested" templates that aren't nested. [5] And this duplicated two templates back in February. This leads me to believe the bot has been making errors for a long time.

Bot is clearly malfunctioning, and should not make any further edits except to debug these problems. Gimmetrow 22:45, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Strange edit

I undid the edit this bot made to Talk:Pisonia brunoniana because it made no sense and it broke the 'Did You Know' notification template. Edit summary was (SatyrBot adding WP:AUS WikiProject banner (s3u). Kahuroa (talk) 11:26, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

PLEASE HELP!! I changed and greatly improved the staff listed for WTVC to one that matches many other TV stations, and this person: 67.161.231.25, keeps changing it to include station personnel as "employees." No TV station entry lists "EMPLOYEES," only station personalities and on-air talent. Please warn him or her not to change what we have improved, and revert the WTVC article on Current Personalities to what I last changed it to. Csneed (talk) 04:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
